I just had to start this thread, its the real deal. There is no acting, no rules etc.

Lets hear it from everyone that's into this stuff. Post it all in here. For those not into it, do you think its wrong? Too bloody? Would you try it? Whats your view?

I'll start, UFC 100. I don't know what the card looks like. But, I think it's going to be big!

dude its an all star cast with the biggest being frank mir vs lesnar heavyweight championship and then george st pierre vs pitbull savles and the ultimate fighter UK vs USA coaches fighting (www.ufc.com)

on my note i do MMA(jiu-jitsu, muay-thai and boxing)for a club called Freestyle Fight Academy(FFA),
my personal favourite fighters are forrest griffon, quinton rampage jackson, anderson silva and george st pierre.

I am very new to grappling. I started Jiu-Jitsu (Gracie) a couple months ago and am still getting into it. I did Karate (Gojo Ru) for many years but prefer Jiu Jitsu already :D

For sure, most people who start Jujitsu get into MMA, thats how I started. Gracie Jits. Those legends. Apparently Rickson Gracie is training up a storm with his son! I wonder!

Datura, where do you train?

I wont lie i used to think that karate was super gay but i have been proven wrong Machida who is now currently light heavyweight champion(UFC 98) fights purely with a karate style his dad was his sensei...but to be fair not many karate style fighters do make it !

and yeah gracies are the best that ever lived they pretty much invented brazilian jiu jitsu, those guys are dangerous

Man, I can watch videos of the Gracies fight all day. They are so passionate about Jiu-Jitsu and dedicated to the art. I seriously get goosebumps every time they pull a new move out of their hat.

Yeh I always laughed at Karate but this sport is full of surprises! Datura, a Renzo gracie academy? Don't tell me you met any of the gracies???

If you like gracie, I have you seen the DVD choke?

No, I will check it out. I just watched Legacy a dozen times in the past month. You must check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

Renzo Gracie: Legacy is a 2008 documentary film about Brazilian jiu jitsu pioneer Renzo Gracie, directed by Gethin Aldous and written by Aldous and Adrian Miller. Shot over a ten-year period, it shows the origins of the sport of Mixed martial arts from its bare knuckle days to the explosion of the sport in both Japan and America.

Wiki quote

I env u Datura.

THANKS FOR THAT! BRO, is that Henderson Mr Dan Henderson? Geez, I also met him at UFC 54 in vegas! Seemed like a cool guy. Stoked he is fighting. I think lesnar is going down.

Legacy, looks pretty good. I don't have a huge collection, prob about 5 DVD's one I watched over and over is Tito Ortiz versus Frank Shamrock, it's an old fight but what a brilliant fight! Frank Shamrock is a legend.

Now that I am getting more interested in fighting I will definately be purchasing as many MMA DVDs as I can get my grubby little paws on. Already reading Jiu Jitsu magazines cover to cover and then starting again. I think I am becoming an addict of note.
Oh yes, our Jiu Jitsu school here in Cape Town will be hosting two Marcus Soares seminars. Friday 19th June & Saturday 20th June. Friday from 6.30pm - No Gi. Sat from 11am - Gi. I am not sure on How much it will cost to attend the seminars but I will find out at Wednesday's class (or tomorrow if I go) for any of you Cape Town guys that may be interested in attending.

In: DSanity: I am not too sure I entirely agree with your comment about trying to avoid places that have a grading system (another thread). It is in place for many good reasons. For beginners it is very motivational and many guys and girls need a lot of motivation to go back and put themselves through the grueling training until they reach the point where they click how far they have progressed and further progression makes them hungry for more and that in turn teaches them to be passionate and dedicated. Also, grading is quite important as a buffer between levels of skill. People who are new don't know exactly what they are doing for a while and can get hurt quite badly or even hurt people that are more skilled during training. Sure, we have open mat classes where we mix it up but it is more a technique sharing session than anything so the guys back off on the strength aspect a little and concentrate more on learning from one another and teaching one another. But yeah, to cut back to my point, I don't think grading is a bad thing at all.

Ok i see your point but what i was more reffering too is i used to do judo and i once went to a training seminar with all these guys with black belts i was still in orange and found them all to be jokes maybe one or two deserved those belts in general a grading system is good if followed properly(which some clubs dont do) and the person really earns their belts i know alot of ufc fighters get told by their trainers that they have to win a certain fight to earn their belts... i think personally i enjoy training in a tshirt and shorts but i know for proper jiu jitsu you need a gi
