Is it just me or did international speed just pick up. I've been suffering with very poor international speed from servers that are very fast but it seems to have suddenly gotten better.

Here's an example...

It's still not perfect (unless I use multiple threads) but clearly alot better. I'm on Axxess Uncapped IS. I hope it doesn't drop again because I was starting to really feel ripped off.

Anyone else noticed any changes?

Jip - International better

Seems better... I still have an issue where certain sites / URL's don't open. Google-analytics is still a problem for example. Facebook was also inaccessible... front page open now, but still problematic.

Form ur personal experience... does IS have more issues than SAIX?

Ja, it is weird... mine also picked up... but I think it has something to do with the beginning of the month. Seacom just cannot come fast enough.

No Google Search

Anyone else having problems with google.com / google.co.za? The page does not open at all? Been having this issue since early this morning. It worked for a minute or so just now, then it went back to being unavailable. I can access my other google services though. Very weird! Just me?

Edit:
Ping statistics for 74.125.67.100:
Packets: Sent = 33, Received = 8, Lost = 25 (75% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 280ms, Maximum = 281ms, Average = 280ms

For me personally IS has more problems and is generally slower then SAIX.

Well it's not the beginning of the month yet so it shouldn't be that.

Google doesn't want to load here either which is odd since it's still up, try www.scroogle.org

Is it just me but msn will not work on IS?
It works fine on my WA saix account.

IS not working properly here, access to some international sites/services but not others, been like this since saturday

IS SUCK

and the same goes for my ISP (Axxess) for not informing me of the issue or keeping my updated. I wasted so much time on Sunday trying to figure out what's wrong and having to resort to 3G to do google searches etc.

This morning (Monday), Google was working again. Actually, pinging google.com showed heavy packet loss, but google.co.za was ok - still a few packets dropped, but less than 10%. I did not have time to check the other "problematic" sites.

Yesterday I had no access to Google Search, MSN Live, Facebook and a few others. I also discovered that the service Trend Micro accesses to check if a site ur about to visit is on the "danger" list, was not accessible. I was puzzled as to why some sites took so long to open on my desktop pc... then when I turned this feature off... the sites opened at the same speed as my other machines.

I haven't read bout this issue in any newspaper on any site etc. I wonder how widespread it is?

Where are you guys located? I'm in Cape Town and have had absolutely no problems with my IS Express Uncapped account.

For a while I had two accounts, due to one being deactivated later than it should have been, so I was bouncing between the two comparing them and the IS satellite couldn't access some sites (including msn) while the IS Fibre could access those sites but gave problems with other sites.

I also noticed one has serious slowdowns when doing a speedtest.net to Cape Town, while the other was slow to other destinations but I can't exactly remember all the details.

Did you check if it was a DNS issue?

What a waste of my time! Assuming that you know and have checked your MTU, DNS, and Telkom line sync to the nearest exchange (which I did) the problem was with Axxess (my ISP) in my case. I had very slow upload and download speeds and my line did not lift to full speed after 8PM in the evenings or over weekends as it should based on the uncapped account rules.
Fact is between IS and Axxess they could not figure out what the problems were until one evening where the Axxess technician (apparently) reset something on my account. Ever since then everything seems to be fine.
Point is two-fold: one, that I am paying for a service that does not deliver according to the agreement, two, that there is still many unresolved broadband issues.
In conclusion although cost for the service that you buy may be coming down the quality of the service sucks to say the least. Other than that the optimist will say that I should be happy to pay R900 per month for an uncapped account / service that does not deliver as it should.

Unfortunately the service we get at these prices is not guaranteed but is offered on a best effort basis - it will cost you a lot more to get a business type service and it could still experience problems.

For what its worth, I am not with Axxess but from the Friday of the Comrades weekend until this last Sunday morning I also had them same issue with speed. I noticed that you are on a sat package and this could also be a problem as some of the guys in the US also seem extremely slow with their posting but this is apparently due to the the sunspot thing...

Agreed Flash99. Lowering the cost for the service makes it affordable for more home users but it does not guarantee the quality of the service. Catch 22 I guess. I accept the latency that comes with satellite but the fact that they could not give me full line speed from 8pm to 8am is unacceptable.

I must admit that before I switched to 384 sat uncapped I had a 3GB fibre account for years and I never had any issues with Axxess.

I will consider the fibre uncapped as an alternative.
