Following these steps may damage your router, void your warranty and even be illegal, please attempt it at your own risk, I take no responsibility for ANYTHING bad that may happen due to following this guide.
Prerequisites:
* a Serial-Ethernet adapter (I got one with my mweb router)
* A serial port on your pc (go figure)
* A terminal emulator (I use minicom under linux, Windoze users can try hyperterminal)
Procedure:
* Connect the serial adapter to your pc and plug an ethernet cable from there to port 4 on the Billion.
* open your terminal emulator and set it to 9600 8n1, no flow control. Repower the Billion and you should see text scrolling past and eventually get to a login prompt.
* Login with username: admin, password: admin.
* type this: pppoe clear transports
* press enter.
* open your favourite web browser and go to http://192.168.1.254/configuration/wan_rfc1483_bridged.html (that's 192.168.1.254/configuration/wan_rfc1483_bridged.html in full)
* change the vpi to 8, vci to 35 and click apply.
You can now dial a pppoe connection from your pc through the router and the default mweb account is gone. WooHoo!
I've messed with my billion 7401 considerably, and somehow got it to a state where it resets to factory defaults on each reboot, so I can't verify whether this will continue to work if you save configuration and restart the modem.
You may also be able to get to the cli with telnet by dafault, bypassing the need for the serial adapter, but I haven't tested whether that works.
I have just about given up on getting this router to accept the default unlocked billion firmware and have tried various different techniques, if anyone's working on it pm me, i might have useful info to share, even if it's simply what doesn't work.
