Deben...
I have severely lost my cool with the Manager at 1023. Telkom or not, They are useless!.

My Neotel connection was crawling this morning when I got up (nothing bloody new) so I reconnected.... surprise surprise, it won't connect.

In the 30 - 50minutes that It refused to connect, have reset my pc, reset the device many times.

So I tried get the support number which I can't find the paperwork for, so I dialed 1023..........

First they give me a Durban number 039-9759100 Just rings...
but then I remembered they have a toll free support number...
I dialed back 1023 and stated I want the toll free number to which they say, it does not exist.
I hung up and dialed to speak to someone else, and again they say it does not exist, and gave me a JHB number 0118236279 which... also just rings!

I then lost my cool, composed myself and dialled 10118 to which they gave me 0800 333 636.

I called back 1023, asked to speak to the manager, and a lady named Sandra answered.

I told her that I'd like her to look up Neotel Support's number, and she started again with the 011 number. I then told her how bloody pathetic they are for not wanting to give out the competition's number, and that its bloody pathetic on their part. I told her to convey to her staff that they're all useless and demanded she write the support number down.

Needless to say, I held onto the line for Neotel support for about 20 minutes no answer (can't believe this!) and gave up.

After about 5 - 10 minutes of not getting connected it came right.

I'm not one bit amused.

Neotel rep : you pm'ed me, too get my details and nothing came of it. Still having fraking endless speed problems. and don't come with the excuse that I need an antenna because there is nothing wrong with my signal quality!

You guys are making it bloody difficult to stay away from telkom!

So which is it? will you give me the service I demand or must I go lick telkom's backsides to get some more shoddy service?

Honestly, today.........

*sigh*
/takes calming tablet......

I appologise in advance if I'm snotty and short of with anybody on the forum, my temper is out of control atm...

But honestly moggie, where else do you suggest do I find the number??? The average person would think 1023 as that's pretty much the standard around this fraking country to find a stupid number!

LOL! As the fixed line competitor to Telkom, I would have thought that neotel would have their own directory service! With a simple to remember number? Like "0"?

Chill... it's a beautiful day.

Chill is coming, waiting for the calming tablet to work!...

Yea, and I do agree, Neotel should have their own easy directory service number. But what I don't get is, why on earth would Telkom not keep Neotel's numbers? - Pretty obvious they are anti Neotel! or atleast the impression I got!

If you worked at Rectron and I asked you for Esquire's number, what would you do?

that neotel page with the details have just revealed more to me, not one of the numbers given was related to what is on that page!...

/proceeds to enter all the numbers into his Cell & Outlook database

oh btw, since 1023 is a toll free number, I call on all forumites to get all the Neotel details at hand, and then call 1023 and ask them for the Neotel Support number and see what they give you. Keep doing this, and give them hell - should be interesting to see what comes of this!

If Telkom can't play ball, lets irritate them like hell!

Good idea Neotel should have a directory enquiry.
To be honest I have called Head Office and Customer support so many times that I know their numbers off-by heart.

LabAnimal: "Needless to say, I held onto the line for Neotel support for about 20 minutes no answer (can't believe this!) and gave up."
- I once called 3am and was prompted to leave a message due to high call volume. That gave me a chuckle and made all my problems dissipate :)

Suppose it would be best to deal with the actual person responsible for listing enquiry numbers other than their call-center ? Maybe Neotel have refused to list therefore their numbers will not be saved ?

it defeats the purpose. 1023 you can dial on any cell, any phone and you go through. If Telkom wants to be holey about which provider's customers call for numbers, they should then not offer the service to other provider's clients!

1023 Telkom or not, they are in the business to provide information just like Yellowpages. But clearly for competitive reasons, they will be as unhelpful as possible if it doesn't benefit them. - why they still offer 1023 is beyond me!

I think in the future, I'd rather dial Yellowpages to get info!.

The numbers given to you for neotel by 1023 call centre staff would depend on the numbers that neotel gave to 1023... Take it up with neotel and tell them to give 1023 their correct numbers!

I made the manager write the correct numbers down.

As for Neotel providing correct information, Its in 1023's best interest to have the correct information all the time, thus they should be doing their PR work, and regularly follow up with their corporate clients (opposition or not) to make sure they have the correct details! If Yellow pages has it, there is absolutely no reason why Neotel would not have informed Telkom of the correct details! Neotel has been operating for some time in SA, I'm pretty sure they would have updated it long ago, and if so, Telkom has shown no interest in updating the information as they stand to gain from miss information! - that is what it looks like.

Come to think of it, This is also not the first time I've had a run in with 1023 giving me incorrect numbers, this is just the first time i've blasted them!

You do know that Vodacom and MTN also have there own Directory Inquires. I am also not totally agreeing with you. I hate Telkom like the next man, but surely the responsibility of the correct info should be with the company wanting your business and not the directory services. Also keep in mind that you are not a Telkom client so you cannot really be pushy with them, as from what I gather your provider doesn't even provide a directory service.

just my 2c

Which are the numbers for Vodacom and MTN?

but as for the rest, I completely disagree with you. As I stated, 1023 is in the business to provide information to the people of South Africa, not just Telkom Clients. If they wanted to limit this to just their clients, the 1023 number would not be accessible on other networks!

1023 when dialed from a Telkoms line routes you to Telkom Directory enquiries......1023 When dialed from a MTN phone routes it to MTN directory enquiries. etc etc.

Clients have to list there numbers with 1023 and it is the clients resposibility. Neotel might not want to list their number with there opposition Telkom but rather list it with MTN, Vodacom and Brabys for instance. Telkom can indeed be sued if it divulges numbers that were not given to them by the client or the clients agency. (ex-directory)

Wrong!.

I've just dialed it from a MTN, then Cell C and Vodacom sim, and each plays the same telkom music, and they clearly say "Welcome to Telkom directory inquiries!"

afraid not.....not always any way....On weekends (sat after 13h00 i believe) and public holidays they route through to Telkom. MTN nad the like dont have 24hr shifts, Telkom 1023 is their fallback.

LA.

Do you have a cellphone with WAP or Internet Access?

It's as easy as opening www.neotel.co.za on Opera Mini and getting their support details.

I'm not saying you were wrong trying to phone 1023. But generally speaking, the faster method would be to go straight to the source.

Ciao bro :p
