First Dragon Age Origins review out, game informer review added

Polish mag CDAction has the first review. You can see the cover of the cd action mag here:http://www.cdaction.pl/

Here's what the polish guys who have the mag have wrote back so far. General feeling is game is great if you love old school rpg's but can be difficult if you haven't played them before. The graphics do look a bit dated according to them but personally I will take in exchange for everything else the game does right.

This is the pc version which was reviewed.

I've just finished reading the review. The overall rate is 8+/10.
Pros: multi-threaded plot
climate
combat
great possibilities for development
length

Cons: looks old school
some fights are difficult like hell even at lower difficulty
levels

There are additional rates for:
- graphics: 7/10
- music: 9/10
- playability 9/10

Difficult? Looks old school?

Great! This really is the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate! :D

They had a second reviewer also do a small piece on DAO:

"What I can say, I had great expectations towards this game. Although I have to agree with all the cons mentioned by Allor, yet I do think that the game diserves better rate and even the quality mark. We should keep in mind that DA:O has to be approached in specific ways.
This is not next-gen RPG game .[...] We have playability in old, very classic style. Gathering the party, prepering for hours for major battles, plodding at a development tree and pondering investing in which areas eventually pays off - that is the very core of the game. We haven't got many games nowdays requiring so much involvement from a player. At the same time none of them offer so complex, multi-threaded and interesting plot, which is the most important thing. Thanks to it you really wanna spend dozens (or even houndreds!) hours with DA:O. I recommend the game to all hardcore RPG's fans. [...]"

Yeah battle hard as hell if your not using the right tactics just like BG :)

The pro's totally outweighs the Con's

They are probably just too used to Diablo-style RPGs where you can kill a hundred enemies with relative ease at level 2.
I really can't wait for this one, and will be commandeering the other half's PC in order to play this as I have grown bored with games in general as of late, and feel they do not warrant the expense of a gaming computer.

Whats your pc specs Messugga?
I do hope they got the spacebar pause and you can then pick who you want to cast spells and so on.

Sounds awesome! Can't wait to invest "houndreds" of hours into this game. :D

They do. It plays like baldur's gate on the pc. You can pause and micro manage your party by selecting one character and deciding what action he needs to take. There is also a lot of ai options for each party member.

A cool cool, have you maybe dug anything up about the class selection you can have?
I loved the classes in BG2 because you had so many choices and you could take party members that complement your selected class skill.

Like after I finished the game just to see the best thief is an enemy the next time I played I took a thief(did not go so well late game) but yeah where fun.

Classes are more limited since they aren't using dnd .

You can pick between 3 races: human, elf and dwarf then you pick your class warrior, rogue or mage. Then you pick your origin: human noble, mage, city elf, daelish elf, dwarven noble or dwarven commoner. Dwarf's can only be warrior or rogue since they are resistant to magic.

Classes can specialise as following: Warrior:Berzerker,Champion, reaver and templar. Rogue:Assasin,Bard, dual wielder and ranger. Mage: Blood mage, arcane warrior, shapeshifter and spirit healer.

There are about 12 npc's who can join your party permanently and there are others who join on certain quests.

O yeah now I remember in one of those 1ste movies I checked a few classes. tnx
Warrior here i come.

I only have a laptop I use for work at the moment and it doesn't come close to the minimum specs required by the game. The missus has a Q6600, 4GB RAM, etc. which should be able to cope rather nicely :D

:D good good and while she is using your laptop just remember to hide the pron :p And remind her that you might not leave the room for a month or 2. And that you going to need daily supplies of sugar and redbull :D :D

I think my pc can cope on the highest setting specs
Amd quad-core 9950 black edition 2.61ghz
4gigs of ram
Radeon hd 4800 series. lets hope so.

I hope its ultra long.

I meet the recommended. For guys who don't know the programmers have said a dual core of 3ghz and above is equivalent to the quad core needed to run the game at recommended settings.

Thinking of getting it either for my xbox, ps3 or pc... mmmm.. probably gonna be great on PC, but I love couches too much...

If you have the pc to run it I would recommend the pc version:

Reasons being 1.Toolset and mods, think neverwinter nights and the quality of those mods.
2.Console version has no baldur's gate tactical view due to ram limitations.
3. You don't get to face all enemies at once they come in waves on the console again due to ram limitations.
4. Console gameplay feels more action orientated than tactical. That has been the option of most guys who played both versions at the gaming conventions.

At the end of the day its your choice but you should know the games are slightly different in a few aspects.
