I just looked at these accounts unlimited on both bandwidth and speeds what can u do with this account? like can they do p2p,gaming and all that or not help from ppl that have such account plz...

What on earth are you talking about?

Go google usenet. go now.

Yes, Google, Google, Google....

I have one of these accounts. As the name indicate it give you access to fast reliable INTERNATIONAL usenet news, not like our local IS and SIAX, crawl like snails servers.

I'd sugges, first you google usenet news. Then read this thread. And don't be lazy, read the WHOLE thread. :D

I am signing up with them next month as I am going uncapped :)

who do you use Gary?

I used to use Giganews, but they were more expensive and I started having a few problems with them on the IS backbone. Then I switched to Astraweb and have been very happy with them! Runs at a steady 420 kbps as if everything is cached all the time.

cool.. I think I am gonna go with them as their $11 month special is very nice! I will have Axxess Uncapped so also on IS, good to know it is a solid download :)

once you go uncapped, paying for one of these suckers is a must.

If you go for the unlimited packages, i would check which has SSL and which doesn't.

essentially it means that no can inspect the data that is being transferred

I signed up for the $25 account which gives me 180GB to use as I please (never expires). The $11 monthly charge doesn't appeal to me as I don't have an uncapped account. So I will just get another $25 account when the current one is finished :D
Obviously for you guys with uncapped accounts it would make sense to get the $11 monthly account, but then make sure you download lots :D

So since a local news server like news.saix.net does not have SSL (?) it means that every file download is therefore open for inspection?

With torrents you can use Peerguardian or Peerblock to block outside IP's from spying on your download.
So with news servers, the only way to do the same is by using a SSL service? Which international (or local) news servers that are well-known, offer SSL?

What other security measures do you take to ensure that downloads from a news server is safe from prying eyes?

most international usenet servers offer SSL, some of them have SSL for free while others you pay an additional fee.

If you going prepaid, I'd recommend www.usenet-news.net. Busy using them now and price is cheaper than astraweb.
