Fan filter foam... where to get?

Where can get a roll of open-cell fan filter foam? I remove the tube fan from my case this weekend and on hindsight it was helping to cool the back of CPU and the chipset. Wanna put it back, but need a long rectangular piece of foam.

Used to have some as it came in a motherboard box, but it is long since gone.
 
You can use a material called bidum, try your local DIY store or nursery ( It's used in the construction industry ).
 
That's the white woven material, right? Will check it out. Thanks!

Will also try the fish tank supply stores, maybe they have a fine enough foam for filter purposes.
 
NP. Yeah AFAIK it's interwoven polyester, though seen it here in grey mostly.
 
Cool. Was thinking of sandwiching it between fan and chassis to do both filter and silencing so maybe the bidum might not work. Will go check it out first though.

Next up... check the old comms room for scraps. :D
 
It's a never-ending battle, even the sponge or bidum will get clogged full of dust, not fun cleaning the front chassis fan out either.
Check this customers PC out.:eek:

Yip, I know. That's why I want a sheet of the stuff. The new CMStacker 830 has wire-mesh filters. Great at stopping the passing cat from getting sucked in, but doesn't stop dust. Will never be rid of dust.

Here's what came out of my old CMStacker case. Filters on the front 2 fans (12cm), no filter on the side tube fan (30cm long), no filter on the open grille on the bottom of the case so the rear 12cm fan of course winds up creating a negative pressure in the thing because the air from the other fans is slightly blocked because they're cooling hard drives, etc. Filters were open-cell foam, so the finest of fine dust particles gets through. Put it together in a humid winter environment after a dry summer and constantly open window and you get this:

yeah that's pretty gross when you realize it's mostly dead human skin :)
 
... and dog and cat skin cells, and the neighbours braai smoke and builder's dust from the neighbourhood and dried out garden compost blowing around, etc, etc. :P

Worked on several machines at the office at start of last year. 7-8 years of gunk in there. Wound up in hospital 5 time in 2 weeks.

Wouldn't mind getting one of the HEPA filter machines, but they can be expensive.
