Hi,

Just bought a Play Station 3 today and would like to know how to connect it to my Iburst modem....

I got a Ethernet cable but that doesnt seem to work so how do I set it up using WiFi?

Thx, any help would be appreciated ;-)

Do you have an access point/router that can connect to the internet?
Which iBurst modem do you use?

Give us some more info...

If I recall correctly PS3 will not directly connect to iBurst, but you can share your internet connection from your pc. You need to connect your PS3 to your pc (using a x-over cable if your network card does not support MDI/MDIX).

Get yourself a wireless broadband router capable of PPPoE.

To this you will be able to connect your PS3 using wireless or the network cable.

Directions.

Wired Connection
1. Make sure that your PlayStation 3 is connected to a broadband-enabled network using an Ethernet cable.
2. Click Settings in the Home menu, then Network Settings.
3. Click Internet Connection Settings.
4. A message will pop up saying that you will be disconnected from the Internet. Choose Yes.
5. Choose Wired Connection.
6. Choose Easy - the basic settings are automatically set.
7. Now click Save.
8. If you want to you can now test your wired connection by clicking Test Connection. Your PlayStation 3 will now try and connect to the Internet. If the connection isn’t successful you should follow the instructions which will appear, to check your settings.

Wireless Connection
1. Click Settings in the Home menu, then Network Settings.
2. Click Internet Connection Settings.
3. A message will pop up saying that you will be disconnected from the Internet. Choose Yes.
4. Choose Wireless Connection.
5. Now choose Scan. Your PlayStation 3 will now search for any available access points and show these in a list.
Note: Some PlayStation 3 models have an 'Automatic' option, which if followed will complete the required settings for you automatically. Simply click on Automatic if the access point you are using supports automatic setup.
6. From the list of access points choose one which you’d like to use.
7. Check the SSID for the access point, press the right button. If you don’t know what the SSID is then you should contact the person who setup or runs the access point for more information.
8. Select the security method necessary, press the right button.
9. Enter the encryption key. This will be shown as a series of asterisks (*). If you don’t know what the encryption key is you should contact the person who setup or runs the access point for more information.
10. Now press the right button.
11. Choose either Easy or Custom and adjust the settings.
Easy - the basic settings are automatically set.
Custom – you will need to enter the settings manually.
12. Now click Save.
13. If you want to you can now test your wireless connection by clicking Test Connection. If the connection isn’t successful you should follow the instructions which will appear, to check your settings.

Hi Guys.

First Post.

I have the same issue that was raised by MvanHeerden. I do not have router, but want to connect my PS3 to the net using my laptop (OS Win 7 Ultimate) and my Iburst USB Modem.

I have tried, bridging, Ad-hoc and nothing wants to work.

Can this be done without the need of a router??

Thanks

Hi Lyntono, welcome to mybb :)

Yes, you don't need a router... I managed to connect my PS3 to my computer using only a network cable and then just shared my internet connection. Works like a charm :)

You should be able to, yes.

In WinXP: Right-click your network icon on your desktop, and select Properties.

In the network window, you should see two iBurst connections - the PPPOE connection, and a LAN connection. Right-click the LAN connection icon, and select Properties. There's a sharing option under the Advanced tab. Check that, and select OK. You'll be prompted that Window will reconfigure your LAN IP.

I've never used configured a PS3, but if it's anything like the Xbox you should have a network settings option screen somewhere. There, set your IP to be automatically assigned, although I've found (on Xbox) that manually defining iBurst's DNS addresses works better than acquiring them automatically. For the gateway IP, use 192.168.0.1.

That should work. :)

If you're using any firewall software, you might have to forward the PSN service ports to your DMZ.

If you're using a different version of Windows, however, then ... I dunno. :P

[EDIT] Oh, heh. I just noticed you're using Win7. Eh, I can't imagine it's really all that different.

(First post as well.)

Hi
Why cant you connect your PS3 directly to a PPPOE modem (iBurst) with a x-over cable?
