I don't think you can blame Vodacom for that. This is simply someone from another country spamming you. I don't think there is anything Vodacom can do about it.

But as everyone now knows, Vodacom has proved themselves to be the King of spam, so I can understand that they will be blamed for each and every spam that people get from now on...

I would like Vodacom3G,s take on this. Vodacom should pick up the rate at which these messages are coming in from the SAME number. And a lot of persons are getting this. Ive posted elsewhere and the guys are bitchin` about it.

VodacomData has been Vodacom's official representative here for quite a few months.

If this is a widespread problem as you suggest, I recommend that yourself and the many others experiencing the same problem, all send an email to [email protected] and get it logged - include all the details including the cellphone numbers to which the spam was sent.

We know that, but he's being a bit shy when it comes to acknowledging this (type of) problem.

Go and read Big Kriss' post where Big Kriss asked for Vodacom3G's opinion and not VodacomData's opinion - unless you want p.m.z sent to vodacom3g going unanswered?

OK, if a lot of people are getting this SMS, then it should be possible to do something about it. It could be something similar to how Google detects spam email. As you said, looking at the rate might be one way. Another way is for people to reply with the word 'SPAM'. Vodacom could intercept SMS messages that contain only this word and flag the sender as a spammer. If enough people do this, they can eventually ban the sender.

Anyway, I am sure there are many other even better ways to do it as well. But that is not the problem. The problem is that Vodacom just could not care less. While other companies (like Google for example) actively do something to protect their customers from the scum of spam, Vodacom are actually helping other companies to spam (see www.vodacommessaging.co.za), but not only that, they are the biggest spammer of all themselves!!!
