Axxess clients and news.is.co.za

Axxess recently changed from the Telkom news.saix.co.za to the IS news server, news.is.co.za and the change only affected local accounts.
I've noticed that my binary news reader clients, both NewLeecher and Alt.Binz are no longer able to download items.They connect and show the "Downloading..." status but nothing happens and the download never really happens. I contacted Axxess technical support and raised the issue with them.
Are you guys experiencing the same issues?
 
You will find that the IS news server performs far worse than the SAIX news server.

I hear you. I was downloading off the saix news server between 250 - 350k and now on the IS server I'm getting <15k. Not too happy with the change
 
So what are the alternatives to get SAIX local (apart from Telkom)?
Going to cancel my accounts with them today.

+ The stupid thing is that their Local+ option is cheaper (R8.9 / GB) and you get some international bandwidth

There is now NO REASON WHATSOEVER to buy Axxess local bandwidth. I've bought tons of it in the past for one reason only: The SAIX news server.

If people wanted IS local bandwidth they could have bought it for a heck of a lot less.

Fully agree! So where can I get local only prepaid now that has access to the SAIX news server? WebAfrica has their own new network, Axxess is not an option anymore due to the IS move so which other ISP's offer local only SAIX access?

I'm quite surprised that Axxess didn't even bother to inform all their clients via email that there was going to be a change from SAIX to IS. I received no email alerts.
WebAfrica on the other hand sent me several emails informing me about their migration, doing a good job with the communication.
 
I just bought some local on Monday, and the only reason I bought it was because it was SAIX, and a few days later they've changed to IS
 
I phoned them on Tuesday and the guy said that they had a notice of the change on their message board for quite a while. I had to go and search for it and all the message says is that the DNS servers are changing, nothing about moving over to IS. They were still advertising the local only as SAIX but have changed it now.
 
I have noticed Axxess don't seem to be very informative when it comes to email. You would think that it would be their primary means of communication. Who the HELL is going to go to the message board??? Maybe a few people with a problem, or some of the new people signing up.... Shame on you Axxess, that was a low blow.
 
the communication of this move by axxess is quite shoddy it would seem from the nmber of people on here who don't seem to be aware of it
 
I wonder if they realise that their local bandwidth is now effectively worthless.:mad:
 
It might still work on the IS news server, but who has the time to wait?




Maybe I must try to convince them to transfer it to the prepaid shaped or 626. That why I can use it on Astra Web.
