Is anyone else having a problem with getting iBurst to work with non-Microsh$t firewalls?

Kerio will not work at all  (cannot access any sites - says it cannot find them - sa,e for e-mail - cannot find server) and Zone Alram shuts the PC down as soon as I try and connect to iBurst. (Blue Screen of Death).

i have a hardware based firewall built into my wireless internet router, and trend internet security 2005 (rated the best MS security kit by IT proffesionals). works hundreds

Running Sygate Personal Firewall here on XP with no problems. Have done both USB and ethernet.

So it seems that only Kerio and Zone Alarm are the ones giving problems then.

You might want to look elsewhere for the source of your problems, like spyware, viruses, etc. That said, I wouldn't touch the free ZoneAlarm with a 10foot pole. Too easy to circumvent.

Have Ad-Aware, Spybot and Grisoft Anti-Virus installed (all with the latest updates). So don't have any issues with spyware and viruses perse.

However have only XP SP2 Firewall activated and from what I understand it has more leaks than a sieve.

Using iptables based one and Zone Alarm and no problem. How do you connect to the modem?

That would be an affirmative. Am using UTD with USB. Is there any way to rectify the problem as I would like to use a firewall other than MS's.

The reason I asked is that many moons ago a MyWireless user had a similar problem. The actual problem was not related to the firewall but rather to the usb controller on the actual pc.

If you're providing network access to other pc's it could be the infamous MTU size issue.

Do yourself a favour and try this same config with another pc.

As to NON-MS firewalls I personally use Trend's firewall & AV combination when booted into windows ;-)

Yeah sounds like a similar MTU problem i had but not using usb tho,

ZoneAlarm and Kerio worked fine, zonealarm still works fine, I got rid of Kerio.

Could you connect using the windows firewall or with out one?

I only ask coz you said it was a problem with non-ms firewalls and if you can connect otherwise then I don't think mtu will help, try other suggestions above and reinstall if nessesary.

I`m using Norton internet security 2005 and untill now i had one problem with allowing the network IP adress which in the case of Iburst is dynamic and always change so i just turn that feature off and it worked all fine....

Just get ipcop!!
There are plenty of posts around.
If you need more help just PM me:)

I have tried Kerio and Zone Alarm on 2 other PC's and the same problem occurs which is why I assumed that there must be some sort of conflict with iBurst.

How do I change the MTU settings to see if that makes a difference?

Seburn, why did you opt for Zone Alarm as opposed to Kerio? Better product?

IPCop?

Ipcop - nice easy like smoothwall runs on old pc -But no program access protection
ZoneAlarm - Does same as Ipcop but with program access protection

The two used simultaniously is the Best solution that I have found.

You will be safer if you use a proper hardware firewall instead of ipcop but since hardware firewalls cannot do all that software firewalls can do you should use the combination

Hardware(faked using ipcop) protects your network as a whole
software(zonealarm) protects each pc

I looked as Kerio and found it seemed to take more memory and more configuration than Zone Alarm. I still stick with zonealarm coz i haven't seen any firewall monitor programs to the level it can (component), and Its very user friendly (after setting everything up) and easy to switch off and on. If I rememeber correctly kerio loaded some sort of replacement driver needing a reboot, I really didn't like this. Besides Zonealarm free version comes with most features to provide a decent firewall for anyone.

as for your other question goto www.google.co.za search drtcp download it and then set your settings like the ones in my sig, they were given by the help desk.
