Guys, you should really read this. It has more info than anything I've been able to find locally:

All the details on the undersea fiber, what it cost, who paid how much (including Telkom), its current capacity usage, details on the convergence bill, the SNO, what the SNO has spent on their backbone, government initiatives to improve broadband, ICASA's role, etc.
 
Well it remains to be seen if telkom are going to continue this development or not...

This is quite comprehensive information. Seems to be targetted at people who want to invest in this country's infrastructure from overseas.

Oh, and the website is shocking! I can't believe people put that sort of thing up for the whole world to see!
 
Yeah, it's real nice if you're looking for hard numbers. I did the multiplication, Telkom put in about the current equivalent of R750m into the undersea cable project. It's nice to know what the SNO has spent on structure, and what the convergence bill is actually doing.

If only Telkom wasn't trying to hide numbers (like the 25% usage) that are available on the net like this. :)
