What are the best speeds you guys get?Are P2P ports shaped?I use SoulSeek a lot(I'm still on ISDN [] ) and the highest DL speed I get when using SoulSeek is 15Kbs.
Besides being very expensive (am paying around 750 ) per month for connecting mainly on weekends (and sometimes in the week , during callmore time) , I get to download over 6G a month.I'm really considering getting iBurst or Sentech.
Comments?Advice?

I think most people will agree with me that it might be worth your while to get a consultant in from both services and test out the service for a week and make your own judgements. From what I read, service varies from tower to tower, thus, depending on where you stay, one service might be better than the other. Personally, I use Sentech with Azureus for p2p and get ~30kb/s on my 512 plan.

I'm on 256K Sentech, and very, very happy with it. Typically, the best speeds I get while download are about 180-190kbps (but that's with my wife downloading at the same time, though I don't know what speeds she's getting). I don't think P2P is shaped - certainly comes down fast enough! Reliability is pretty good too.

Just to clarify - I don't get those speeds on P2P, only on FTP/HTTP. eMule, which I use, is not known for speed, but my Bittorrenting seems quick.

I average 12K on P2P on my 128K connection.

It's not as bad as people tell you and best of all there is no real cap.
It has a couple flaws but if you want to only download and not play games or do VOIP then its pretty sweet.

I echo the above sentiments. I am on the 256k package, and am quite happy. My connection uptime outlasts Windows XP uptime (i.e. I need to reboot my PC before the connection gets dropped). And speeds are very good. I use a lot of p2p (Azureus bittorrent client) and I average between 20 - 25k/sec on downloads. There is also a cap of 20GB per month (on the 256k package) which I struggle to stay within. I twice did 45GB per month. So speed and stability are good.

Although I think your area has a lot to do with what type of performance you will get. Get a consultant to come out and test it for you, and set the modem up where YOU would set it up if you were to get it. I connect to the Woodmead tower (+- 1.5km from tower) and have a connection strength of 2/4 lights (I can get 4/4 lights if I move the modem to the other side of my house, but I'm pretty much getting full speed, so haven't bothered).

The only thing that doesn't work too well is Skype. Sometimes it's fine, other times it is totally crap. But it could be the location I am calling (swaziland) that could have something to do with it... it isn't exactly first world... :D

I use Skype to the USA and have excellent and consistent results.
YET ... when using Skype within SA (including to ADSL users) ... the results are usually not too good.
Somehow I have a feeling that Telkom is shaping and interfering with Skype :(

Ejbengine, to summarise:
IBurst - very fast if signal is good but not especially reliable.
MyWireless - less sensitive to signal quality, relatively fast and has better reliability

When IBurst is running well, it is a pleasure. MyWireless tends to work consistently but you will never get 1Mbps. Coverage from IBurst is probably superior by about (thumbsuck estimate) 10%. In the longer term, MyWireless rollout is due to commence 2nd phase early in 2006. Not sure about IBurst.

Let us know if you wish to have a visit from one of our guys.

Cheers

If nothing else surfing is an absolute pleasure on MyWireless.
I have 2 servers, a 512 ADSL and a 256 MyWireless and I can switch between the two at will.
For surfing I'd say MyWireless is 5 times faster to anywhere in the world than ADSL.
Downloading, local I get 52k ave on ADSL and 25k ave on MyWi.
Internationally I get around 40k on ADSL and around 19k on Mywi.
With ADSL if I download 2 files they get devided like 20k each which with Mywi they both come in at max speed, although this does change after 3 or 4 files.
Local pings on ADSL is around 50 whereas around 120 on Mywi.
International pings on ADSL is around 400 with around 800 on Mywi.
Reliability is better on ADSL but then they have been at it a lot longer.
Cost wise to be fair one must consider the costs when ADSL started and what we paid for modems.
My Netgear ADSL modem cost me R3000 at the time which is the same price as a Mywi modem these days.
Both the ADSL512 and the Mywi256 are about the same monthly.
Standard systems, ADSL 3 gig hard Cap, Mywi 20 gig soft cap (although only warning).
Granted ADSL is twice as fast for same price but then there is a cap, port monitoring and a lot more sh*t than you realise.
Many websites that on ADSL you take for granted as being normal like "This page cannot be displayed" or "Gateway Timeout" when switching to Mywi, they come in no problem at all and this is getting worse by the day.
Mywi I can use at home and at the office or anywhere for that matter, even on the beach, wheras ADSL is fixed at home only, not a biggy at the moment, but intime this will become a major issue.
Currently in my book if I was to start again, I would have a ADSL192 for gaming and the reliability and Mywi128 for surfing and downloading etc (if you can afford).
