Help with ICASA - Gathering Nov 1st 'Evidence'

I spoke to someone at ICASA this morning - please read:

they hadn't heard about any Telkom Nov 1st changes - and want texts/evidence of Telkom's letters/notifications to Resellers sent through to them..

Have to go to a job, will be back within an hour - and will be emailing ICASA and following up with phonecalls, so if there's evidence (official Telkom emails/pdf's etc) - please help assemble thread links, or net-links to 'proof' of Telkom's alleged coming pricing structure change..

I can not believe however that this is the first time they heard of per gig billing :confused:

Nope, but bear in mind there's no way they WOULD have heard about it - unless someone bothered to phone them. Or email them. Or make contact with them in some way.

People on this Forum have some bad ideas that 'just because its on the Forum - its 'common knowledge'. Just because everyone here is familiar with it, and uses this forum as a method of gaining news, doesn't mean that people in the realworld do the same.

I've sent through one bit of info already to my contact (who's part of the ICASA Finances and Tariffs section) and called them back - they're all in a meeting currently.

I'll be calling them back a little later, and as I've said - whatever info Telkom have passed to resellers, advising them of a change coming Nov 1st, please pass it on to me, or if you want - fax it directly to ICASA.

Personally I just got gatvol of everyone accepting this apparent coming price hike,
without checking if the Regulator itself was aware of it. If the Resellers didn't want to p*ss off Telkom, or are too busy to call the regulator and follow up on it, or if all of this is just Fantasy - then I'll bloody well call them, just to know for certain what the truth is.
 
LG, if you have any proof, please share it m8.
I dont believe it at all, maybe I am just being defiant, but its all very 'iffy' to me.

If its all just 'rumours' - then ICASA itself will find out for us.
as for 'concrete proof' - the various advisories sent by resellers to customers,
as well as the notices sent by Telkom to resellers, are proof.

If its true, and it goes against what ICASA wants, there'll be legal action
to stop Telkom instituting any of the apparent changes ahead of time.

It would seem to me that Telkom would have to submit any plans in terms of new costings to ICASA for approval before implementing them.

If these costings are true and ICASA have no knowledge of them, then Telkom are just running roughshod over ICASA.

Looking forward to reading what you find out.
 
I dont think you're being 'defiant' - other words spring to mind rather.

Main thing is: if there's the potential for a radical change in pricing, which
will alter the ability to use the internet - you DONT wait until its done,
before throwing the info at Authorities and whining about it - you help
the Authorities by providing them with sufficient data for them to determine
if its going to occur, or not. And if it is, and ICASA don't like it - they'll take
action to prevent it happening.

And if it isn't - gee, I've wasted maybe 45 minutes of my life to find this
out.

Tell me what's wrong with this simple logic?
 
You know what is nice to see, is that it seems ICASA will/is grateful to MyAdsl/LG for this knowledge and concern and to see that the news was taken so well and that they are in a meeting now about it is enchoraging and perhaps myadsl and icasa will start to work together??
Maybe im dreaming, but it would be nice.
 
If I remember correctly, I have official Telkom info on new pricing at home - If I do find it tonight, I will pass it on.

LG, dont misunderstand me please. I agree and appreciate your efforts, really, call me whatever you like if you get a kick out of it :)
All I am after is the proof, as you are.
So lets get the proof all nicely in one place where everyone (including myself) can see it, is all.
My posts on this topic are a challenge for people to provide the proof, as you have asked for, not a challenge against what you are doing, not in the least, I support it 100%.
 
As regards 'proof' - the only people who really need data, so that THEY
can find out if its true or not, is ICASA..

(I was thinking of phoning the Telkom person who apparently sent one
of the letters I've forwarded to ICASA, to ask if this letter was sent by them..)

Given that if you phone any of the current ISP's offering more than 3 gigs
to users - they ALL either have been in negotiations with Telkom already,
over the coming change, or are planning to be in contact with Telkom.

That's proof enough.

I've sent x2 mails to ICASA - with one batch of pdf attachments, and will call ICASA just now to followup - I've also clearly said to them that (as regards the SAIX-> reseller letter) I can't vouch for its authenticity, however if its 'true' - then not only will this potentially wipe out the business/residential ADSL 30 gig user market overnight, as well as put the cost beyond the reach of the majority of consumers, there's also (shock horror) an increase in resets of connections, which is totally contrary to ICASA's own findings..

I spoke with ISP 'X' now, asking them if they have hard copy from Telkom in this matter - they didn't - (yet I know they've been doing meetings with Telkom to try and find ways of staying in business after the projected Nov 1st price hike.)

I also mentioned to them that - as far as I know - by law, Telkom have to submit any changes in pricing, to ICASA - and this has not been done as yet.

(yes, I have time on my hands at the moment, so am being anal and productive :P

Dude, ignore the whiney , bitchy types here, just go ahead and fight the good fight. At least someone is doing something, and if i can help in any way i will. I work for an ISP that does our own radius, and i can confirm that we have received a reseller letter. I will try get it out of my boss and email it to you.
