Let's convince Mark Shuttleworth ...

I think it would be wrong to put pressure on him, Im sure he had to do alot to get sponsorship from telkom for his outreach program and pulling more would possibly be dangerous for his program..

my 2cents worth.

I also agree would u guys, we definitely don't want to pressure anyone into anything. However, getting someone that has the spotlight on them to voice our concerns/issues/etc. would definitely be better than a million posts on this forum as he would be able to reach more of the public. Obviously, he would need to want to do this. Being an intelligent person, I am sure he would want to assist us in our struggle :)
my 5 cents :D

Ok, cool, I just would have thought that with a huge public figure like him behind us we mgiht get somewere - the media would probably take more notice, BTW does anyone know if Telkom does sponsor him?

I agree kilps and Im sure Mark is doing work in this area, we may not know about it ;p

Why?

Look what he is doing with outreach and IT and promoting OS software

and how many people do you know who are millionairs by 30?

I also think hes also a w@nker. Ive been wondering for ages why he hasnt gotten involved with the struggle for realistically priced broadband etc. With all his bucks he could set up his own flippin operation. Internet access for all....now that would be something worthwhile him doing.

WOW, amazing, how can people be so narrowminded and selfish... Hes doing a alot for SA in the opensource industry out of his POCKET and obviously SPONSORS he gets via communicating.

Hes doing his side, on a different platter. One person cant fight all battles, hes no g0d, hes still human.

I don't know Mark personally, but just because he doesn't devote all his time to ruining Telkom doesn't mean that he should be lambasted.

What is the criteria these days for not being called names?

IMHO in the interests of keeping MyADSL a respectable site, negative and possible defamatory comments should be kept at the other end of the keyboard.. RPM has worked hard to bring this site up and it would be sad if people disregard it because of a few overly-harsh comments from an increasingly vocal minority.

We're all in it together, remember that.

This is the same guy who had 100million lying around so that he can take a trip into space? I do not think the few k's he got to spend on phone bills is the reason. Must be something else.
Btw how long do u have to work in the uk to get a british passport? :D

Well lets think about it, pay 100million to go to space, if you dont take the chance you will never get that chance in your life, he had the money and used the chance and damn it was great advertising for his future. Great going!

Paying for Telecoms, what a waste? If you get ripped off, I would also move wherever I can. Currently SA isnt to bad for me, but its starting to get to me.

Get A Life !!!

Shuttleworth may be a wanker in some peoples books, but lets face it the guy has b@lls and he is a pretty shrewd business man. THE BANK BALANCE PROVES FOR IT!

So despite what some intellectually challenged dimwits think, the relevance of his charter to our telecommunications problem is irrelevant.

Like any rationally minded business man he removed personal risk from South Africa, by both placing the bulk of his money and his base overseas, tell me you would not have done the same?

If you answer that you think he is a prick for having done this, then my answer to you is that you are economically starved of the facts, grossly mislead by emotion or down right dumb!

I think that we should all individually and collectively solve our own problems, why is it that when someone hits the limelight or has money that suddenly he/she has responsibility for everyone else’s problems…

Come one guys get a life, lets get back to fighting telkom & government and if someone can convince some big names to step in that will be great, but lets not undermine our IQ’s with such frivolous banter.
