1 November complaints - PLEASE SEND THEM TO ICASA!

**********************************

PLEASE can more ISP's join in on this? WebAfrica started it, and now the door is open for others to join in. The complaint is in - now we can back it up with complaints about it from ourselves.

The ISP's must stand together with this - even though you guys compete with each other this is in your own (and all your customers') best interest. Telkom has the upper hand because they KNOW that no one will stand up against them except a few - please turn that few into many!

MyADSL and Hellkom can only do so much - we need people to come together as a wall of support and now is an ideal opportunity for ISP's and ADSL users to show that they're not afraid of the blue and green beast by sticking together and telling them that what they are doing is NOT acceptable.

It's YOUR business that will suffer while Telkom is raking in more profit with the changes coming 1 November, don't let them shaft you as well, the public have been taking it lying down for long enough - fight for them and fight for yourselves.

PLEASE send e-mails outlining why you think 1 November will be detrimental to you or your business and the broadband community as a whole, to [email protected] - come guys, the more the better!

antitrust and hellkom are completely behind this web africa innitative, and will be supporting it as much as possible. Expect to see new ISP lists on our sites.. "ISP`s that care about you" and "ISP`s that dont" or something like that.

We both thought it would be a good idea, to give ISP`s that are actually trying to help decent exposure, as those are the ISP`s that at the end of the day.. we want.

Thanks guys, just to mention Dotco is also behind it 100%. We are sharing the legal costs.

Dotco and Web Africa, at least there are two decent ISP`s out there. I will be contacting other various ISP`s and finding out their positions on this.

Isn't imaginet also doing something to this line; they had like a petition thing and there was also some complain to icasa if i'm not mistaken?

@MaD

I have send mails to Icasa to complain, no respone or acknowledgement received. I have send now the same response to some council members and CEO with indication that they did not respond. Can we have more e-mails adresses listed (PM me and I will send more) to spread our pains further please.

Thanks Peter7!

Anyone else??

Anyone???

There's no point in having sites like Hellkom and MyADSL if no one is going to get off their asses and help out. FFS how apathetic can one be.

At LAst some response

Icasa did not respond to the e-mails as others experienced. So I did what someone proposed and send copy's to names on their home page and now got response. Here it is

Dear sir

This email should be address to the chaiperson of Icasa ******* not ******

I have re-sent this to the Chairperson's office for re-delegation. I am sure it is being dealt with already, or alternatively is in the procss of making its way to the correct person for consideration.

Please follow up if you have not heard from us within 7 days.

Yours sincerely,

is that email addy still active... i sent bout 2 mails last month sometime... icasa prolly arent even reading them anymore... i think alot of us sent there.

Hi silversurfer,

yes that email addy is still active. I phoned ICASA and spoke to the person of this addy. His department is the consumer protection department. By the way his nick is "OB", just ask for "OB" at the switchboard to circumnavigate being transfered all over the show ;-) OB told me that he was adding the complaints sent to his email addy to a growing database of complaints. Just keep 'em coming. :D

Remember my TIFF with Douglas Reed of Datapro, in a previous thread when I questioned there 1 Nov ADSL November?

This, exactly is what Datapro should have been doing. Shame on Datapro for being such pushovers. Datapro played the perfect Telkom lapdog, saying simply that per gig billing would be "good for the industry"! SHAME ON YOU!

Way to go WebAfrica, and Dotco. Finally consumerism has become "corporatism". It's about time ISP's stood up about getting screwed over.

I'm most astounded that not more ISP's are joining in.

Oh well.. I'll just keep plodding along at Hellkom and hope that one day someone, somewhere will get off their asses and do something. Thanks to those who HAVE sent in complaints.

Maybe we should just leave it and accept that Telkom will do what they want. I'm gonna book a ticket back to London, no use staying here if not even the ISP's do anything. Everyone expects things to be done FOR them, whats up with that?

Assumptions being made that no one else is e-mailing?

Hi guys

My first post so please don't flame me ...

I have sent a number of e-mails to Icasa and so have friends of mine, some of whom are not MyADSL members, at my instigation. So it's not exactly true to assume that because folk aren't telling you they are e-mailing ... that they are not!

Here's hoping that sanity will prevail ... with Telskum ...

Regards

pammi_za, it's one thing to send an email to ICASA. It's another to make an official complaint, under Section 53, such as Webafrica and Dotco has done.

If more ISP's stood together, and officially tackled Telkom together, especially at this vulnerable time in the regulatory environment (considering all the hype about telecoms costs) it would have been more effective than 1000 emails complaining to ICASA.

Then again, ISP's in this country are such fsckwits that some of them still support EQL (Equivalent Line Charges) at Jinx, the South African peering point, purely because they thing that it will benefit a "certain" ISP too much if it were dropped.

Once again. *Clap Clap* to Webafrica and DotCo.

/me bitchslaps MTTNS, and UUNET.

I am all for to post the ISP that are fighting Telkom, they will have my support when the dust settles> I shall not support an ISP that does not defend my interest.

It's as simple as sending a mail:

Subject: 1 November price changes
Message: I think 1 November will be BAD for the broadband industry because . . . . . .

It's just an e-mail which will back up the Section 53 complaint. One S53 complaint has already been lodged so showing support for it is all that is necessary and increases the chances of being successful.
