Unlimited local and long distance calls/!?!

no this is something.... I mean for R300 you get 1000 standard national minutse (normally would cost at least R400 if I'm not mistaken), and unlimited callmore, who needs infinitycall! Altho I'm slightly confused. it says now available to DSL Supreme and Premium customers.... wtf is DSL Supreme and Premium? I know you get those in ISP package form but they have nothing to do with your calls??

the scum! "One Rate only applies to normal fixed line calls and excludes Internet, International and mobile calls."

Internet access isn't included. So if you're still on dialup you have to pay for every second. Out of bundle minutes are more expensive, 68c as aposed to 38c.

Holy mother of grail. Lets jump at the opportunity to buy 150 minutes at a rand a minute. And this is during callmore time! Its cheaper to stay out of bundle wtf???

Conclusion: If you ONLY use the included minutes, and don't dialup, then its probably cheaper. Telkom has found another way for the consumer to be on edge and watch the clock. How the hell are you going to keep tabs on the number of minutes you use? Write it down on a piece of paper each time?

*Edit*Missed this:
If cap is reached, normal per second billing as per distance band as per time of day will apply.
It only applies to Option 3 though.

Personally, I think this is great! Altho, I don't think it is Telkom's intention but this product might cause some more migration to ADSL since you can't have InfinityCall to use it... but seeing as I'm on ADSL, this suits me fine :D

It is sad that you have to pay add on charges for Internet. Doesn't make any sense to me. One of the biggest favours Telkom/Gov can do for this country is to enable flatrated dialup internet...

Nope.
One Rate does not work with any of the inclusive minutes calling packages designed for voice calls (e.g. SilverLine, XtraTime, DSL Supreme and DSL Premium, etc.) or InfinitCall.

Could you be more specific:confused: Nope to what? Nope it's not available to ADSL clients or you're agreeing with me as in 'nope' the ISP package doesn't affect your voice line?

Its 150 hours, so you pay 1.7c per minute

With 150 hours of internet time, you can go on for 5 hours a day for 30 days - that's excellent! For once I think Telkom are offering a truly competitive product! I mean you get Call Answer, and Line Rental included into this package (about R100) then for an additional R200 you get 1000 standard minutes (usually costing minimum R400) and UNLIMITED national calls!

LOL I just realized, this offer is on trial for 6 months, and according to radio reports the SNO will be operational mid next year - i.e. since this is being trialled, if the SNO doesn't offer competitive rates, Telkom can remove this service and just say **** YOU it was a trial service!

Why is there a one hour time limit on calls?

Telkom's network is a shared resource and if usage is excessive, the quality of service could deteriorate. Almost all voice calls last less than an hour so we are confident this limit won't affect you. If you talk for longer than an hour, during Callmore time, calls will be charged at normal per second prices, but you can just redial to enjoy the benefit during these times.
So if everyone just redials before the one hour limit then continues at the call and pays nothing, isn't that also going to negatively influence their network capacity??? That limit is just there to score from the few ppl that might go over their limits, thats all, why would they introduce something like this in the first place if their 'network resources' were limited???

I think its a step in the right direction. I wouldn't dream of using this for dial-up. What's dial-up anyways? For making calls however Im definately considering this.

IC are all your friends hooked up to the internet with a computer?
I can count the number of my friends who actually have a pc on one hand. So I still use the phone a lot

Also does this apply to cellphones? Don't see that on the page, maybe I missed it

Pretty useless for my family ... bulk of costs are to cell.

Option 3 :

R300.00 for 1000 mins during standard time.... plus
Unlimited calls during callmore time (weekends and after 7pm)

I will save quite a bit with this option.

A small step in the right direction... imho

:)

You mentioned it is available to the DSL Supreme etc services when it said at the bottom of the link that it isn't...

Must agree with you though, the page is a little confusing...

In the abscence of real competition to Telkodemonopoly, there is no incentive for Telkodemonopoly to do anything that is good for consumers, so anything new that Telkodemonopoly comes up with, has to be treated with extreme scepticism, and clearly forumites have already proved that this "One Call" is another cr@pola product designed to get people to pick up the legacy telephone instrument and put money into Telkodemonopoly's pocket. Another c[r]apped Telkodemonopoly product, I will stick with ADSL and make VoIP calls thank you very much.

Personally I don't care about giving Telkom money, I really couldn't care who it goes to - the only thing I care about is HOW MUCH MONEY I'm giving to them. Whether I'm giving my money to Telkom or the SNO, as long as I'm getting a good deal I'm happy, irrespective of who I get it from. I shall definately be signing up for Option 3 on both of my lines:) :)

You've obvioulsy forgotten about the vast majority of people in this country who will be using the "legacy telephone instrument" for years to come.

Although i dont have a need for a landline i think Option 3 is a damn good deal. Its essentially unlimmited calls for a flat rate. With the internet addon that brings it upto R450 a month, considerably less than my average Telkom bill prior to me getting ADSL.

I agree about treating all things Telkom with scepticism though. But if this works out its definitly a step in the right direction. In fact i would go so far as to say that its the first real display of the effects of competition.
