This month has been the end for SAOL for me. I have support SAOL since i started with em. With every post before this month i have supported and backed them up through complaints...Now i am the one complaining! (if dont believe check prev posts by me on acc history)

They have this attitude...the clients support them and they will reward clients with future products....Fair enough.
However this month you see no compensation or compassion from company that supposedly will help it's own clients.

The 30 gig account was my issue and made me terminate my SAOL service. Fair enough...again that they say it is a Telkom issue. Yet the issue is they provide no temp issue to help it's clients with IPC problems. However the attitude is more like.....Just deal with it...and wait. I would like any SAOL employee use a 30 gig account and say it is worth the R599. ( i wont go any how bad service is just read other posts about ping etc)

Now i dont even need that kind of cap size...I have never been capped before even on 10 gig accounts. It was just for piece of mind that i could actually DL a bigger file or more etc.

1. When i applied for 30 Gig account for Jan. I never had any email....sms about my new login details. It was just by luck i remembered the IPC login that was posted here. I phoned support the 1st Jan of course no reply on phone just an answering service where i left a message and was still never called back! or still to recieve an email about IPC saying it even had these issues.

2. I sent an email asking for refund on 30 gig account. The conclusion was no i could not get a refund (Reason was i was 1 gig/30 gigs) *sigh* So i bit the bullet and was told i could be changed to a 10 gig account and only pay R99 for Feb. That was turning point of me. I cancelled my account for Feb + and switched to 10 gig for remainder of this month...Heck at least i can use the net now!

3. Checking my stats i still see SAOL has decided to deduct 1 gig from my 10 gig cap from my 30 gig usage. Does this justify as service? Esp after paying 599? *pathetic*

This is it for me and SAOL. Will be switching to IS Cheetah from Feb + Reason? Since using Nukecap LowPing/PayVPN i have recieved information of downtime...IS/Uunet issues etc etc. Amazing response time on emails.
Yet SAOL failed to send me any email over IPC issues. Am i the only customer on IPC? That they think can just myadsl forums for answers? Seems more a since we are a big company one customer loss is not gonna hurt us.

This i hope will be the last i deal with SAOL again.

Makes you think doesn't it?

I suppose you are going to be considered an "hot head" as well ... :)

Too many complaints about SAOL ...

The ISPs have this habit of blaming Tekom, when you call Telkom they blame the ISPs but, Telkom backs it up by offering you a test account to prove what they say and most of the times, I must say, they come out tops.

I just wish the management of ISPs would drum into their employees heads that the CUSTOMER IS IMPORTANT and IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!!

Success of a business is determined on the after sales service but in South Africa companies tend to think that one day customers are good enough.

I had the same problem with SAOL, had 3 30Gig accounts + 1 10 Gig premium = R 2446.00 per month, not a small account, when I changed from the R 399.00 10 Gig to 30 Gig I was assured that there was no problem with P2P, I need it for certain video streaming and distributing some of our work on a private tracker for students to use it and a few other things. Now when I finally managed to get everything working and sorted with them no P2P, was emailed Apparently I had been given the wrong information. Not only is it a a sizable sum of money I pay them but to top it all they withdrew on debit order and my accountant paid them as well so no problems with payments. I have cancelled the lot and changed back to 10Gig for the remainder of the month, am waiting to see what is going to happen to my credit

HellTell

You need to be reasonable - customer certainly is important, but that the customeris always right I cannot agree with. I would rather say give the customer the benifit of the doubt - if there is any that is and if you think there isn't you had better be damn sure of yourself.

Well cant be to brave when the current capped IS account he is using, performed better than his 30gig account.

well all i know is that the guys i game online with say its no good

but then i dunno

does it perform better than the 10 gig?

and if not how would saol be able to stop the 30 gig accounts from being good

Borgir - way to go - vote with your wallet. Too many SA companies (and I'm not necessarily saying this is the case with SAOL so chill out fan boys ;)) are prepared to offer a lackluster service and think they can get away with it.

The customer is always right - even when they're wrong. :)

killadoob - Im going to try my best to understand what you just said :)

1.) IS ADSL on SAIX servers from 5pm onwards during weeks and anytime weeks, performs the same as SAIX to SAIX.

2.) 10GIG SAIX is hardcapped, something not everyone wants, right? Its probably on par, read above.

3.) I dont get ur 3rd point, what do you mean with "saol be able to stop the 30gig from being good?" - saol 30gig performance is not great at all, and not on par with saix 10gig cause they use their own ipc aka network and somehow its performance is terrible.

Im with IS i dont game during the day but at night my ping is normal like when im on my saix account and also im already intl capped with my IS account and i can still surf and browse intl from some sites where i have downloaded after being capped i did download at 8-14k's

From my experience with SAOL :
a. SAOL came with 10G package, which is the best in the market. There is a need for imagination, guts and intimate knowledge of the market to do it.
b. SAOL introduced IPC in a way that can be a case study in project management course of how NOT to run a project. For example total lack of “critical path” or turning customers into Beta testers without consulting them.
c. SAOL failed as far as customers’ service is concern. With the right attitude and methods they could have turned the customers into partners in the project and turn a problem into an opportunity.
I do think that they are a basically a good company but in this point of time something went horribly wrong for them all the way.

Watch out guys, you are all being "hot heads" bwhahahahahahahaha

By the way, I had a problem with my Web Africa account, I messaged one of the guys on msn, he gave me a call straight away and we sorted out the problem. How customer service should be.

agreed! :)

I'm surprised that SAOL didn't attach a bold, neon, flashing disclaimer to the 30GB product to ensure that the high-end users (who were attracted like moths to a freakin' flame) would understand that it was not suited to high-end use. Marko was up upfront about that fact when asked, but its clear that some people still had entirely the wrong impression going in.

For the record: Their 10GB account is still the mutts nuts. So long as they don't stuff it up, I'll stay with them...

Borgir, I am in the same boat as you. Went from the 10GB to the 30GB, didn't have the IPC account details, had no luck over new year, no one called back, since then changed back to the 10GB account and also got deducted 1GB off my 10GB account. C'est la vie.

One thing is, there are so many people who use ADSL (to work from home) at my work. They all now know about the 30GB account and what I went through. Trust me, none of them are signing up with them in a hurry. Who wants to have go through all this. Imagine how many other people went through the same thing.

I dont get it - isnt a 30gb account intended to be used to its capacity then? And wouldn't that make the user a high-end user, comparatively speaking seeing as the majority of the country uses less that 1.4 gb if telkom is to be believed. Maybe it wasnt designed for torrents - but thats a different ball game.

Yip you would be correct Bwana I am pretty sure that the 30Gig account was intended to be used to capacity and it was not meant for torrents, has anyone having used the 30Gig had problems other than torrents and a maybe online games.

All the problems with everything except torrents could just be Teething problems and yes I know it's unfortunate but it would appear that you became the guinea pigs. I am sure that a whole lot more goes into shaping an account succesfully other than being able to just put a tick in the box that says "Block P2P torrents and nothing else" so although yes there are many customers that are unhappy with SAOL and their 30Gig account, but for those of you who signed up for them - did you ever confirm your username whilst negotiating the payments and all the details or did you all just take it for granted that the username would remain unchanged ?

I am not making SAOL blameless here, but rather showing that "most swords have a double edge and one side is naturally sharper"

Anyway perhaps in time SAOL will perfect the 30Gig account for the "high end" users or perhaps not - I suppose time will only tell.
