HI Guys!

I wanted ADSL, so i went to Telkom Direct. The woman told me if i take the 384Kbps HOme ADSL Solution with a 2 year contract, i will get the R400 installation fee for free, aswell as a Telkom ADSL 5100 Router. I did this, received my bill, and was charged R400 for installation. I went back to her, and she told me i only get 50% off from the installation fee, and now i still need to pay R200

We should get our own AI Qaeda network and you can figure out the rest.:(
 
you should have opted for doing the installation yourself for free. It is also obvious you have not followed the advise of many people on this site. You should never have signed a contract with Telkom! Rather buy the Modem yourself, and subscribe on a month to month basis. This way when the shake up comes you may chose to move to the cheaper providers.
 
Hey does anybody remember those black Dynalink Mweb branded 56K modems that they gave away for nearly free in the big black box because they only worked on the MWeb dialup network ???.

I wonder if anybody has ever tried using those Telkom branded routers on a non SAIX network ;).
 
They record all there phone calls (dont they?) So you can contest that. If thats what she really said, then they have to stick to it.

the telkom (billion) 5100 router is 100% free if you go with the 24 month contract. no catches/tricks/hidden costs. and it's a damn nice router :)

And I suppose when you're getting rude and make racist remarks, then they'll find that call chop-chop for evidence...

/me smells double standards at work...
 
I remember yonks back an insurance company quoted me a certain figure and when I was debited, the figure was double. I complained, and asked them to retrieve the call log. A few days later they came back to me and told me they found the call, but the last half (where they quoted me) was not recorded.

Needless to say, I told them to get f'ed and went elsewhere.

True.. on that definition its free.... but I dont call 24month Contract 'Free' by any stretch of the imaginiation.

Free is relevant - exchanging your freedom to switch ISPS for the next 24 months, just for a router is bloody expensive.
 
2 year contract

I considered the contract. Nothing wrong with it actually.

It is for the line, not the ISP, so you can still go with any ISP you want.
You can cancel the contract anytime by paying the balance owing, i.e the value of the router (and probably the install) divided by the number of months left.
I was given the monthly cancellation amount upfront.

and considering that you will be paying for the line anyway, unless you go with the SNO, why not do it as part of the contract, you get the router free, the installation free (well you are supposed to), plus a few extras for free on your voice line such as "best Friends", call waiting, and some other things I can't remember.

So, other than it being Telkom, there is nothing wrong with the contract.

I Actually ordered the 384 Supreme contract as well, but then decided I wanted my own wireless router (Billion) so I phoned and changed it to a non-contract. They did it happily, and it did not affect my installation time. I did however wait to buy my own router, just in case the techie arrived with a telkom one.

The contract would have been cheaper though.
 
With regard to the recording of calls:

Any company performing sales over the phone is obliged by regulations to record the call. If any dispute regarding the sale is lodged by the customer it is upto the company in question prove that the sale was/not on the terms stated by the customer (by a recording).

If the company cannot provide the recording of the call, by default the company is liable for any costs incurred as a result of the sale. e.g. somebody calls you up trying to sell you a microwave with say 10% HP and they charge you 15% and you dispute it then the company must prove that they told you it was 15% and not 10%. In this case you would pay 10% if there was no call recording.
