A couple of guys & myself are already planning the last stages of our node setup. Also negotiating with the farms on the top of Helderberg to get LOS to Stellenbosch.

Already organised hi-sites in stellenbosch & interconnectivity with SUN :) ph34r.

Helderberg Wireless Community - www.gamernet.co.za / pretty quiet for now

Jeeva, I would like to know if you are the same Jeeva that used to stay in Mountain Road Swest. I used to stay close to you (if you are the same person). Mail me back at wispman AT webmail DOT co DOT za so we can talk. We have a huge wireless mesh running Between the Helderberg (4 High Sites in the Helderberg Area) and Stellenbosch (about 16 High Sites), Jonkers Hoek (1 High Site) etc etc. Before deciding on purchasing any hardware, please consult me, because we have plenty of knowledge and experience with the technologies, what works, what doesn't etc. Just remember, if you decide to use 802.11b/g as backbones, there's NO WAY it will work, no matter what MiRo tells you. Interference by new comers grow daily, and if you start with something that just-just works, youll be in the same boat I used to be, keep upgrading till your out of cash. But, if you use the right equipment from day 1, it will probably never happen. Since we started using 802.11a with high power antennas etc about 1yr6months ago, we never have any such problems. I am willing to help you with your network, not only to help you, but also to help people like us who's equipment might get interfered with if you run on the same channels.

I believe we all should stand together to avoid using the same channels and cause trouble for each other, otherwise noone will survive.

Re, G

Another Mountain Roader here...

With all the 2.4 Ghz WISPs around HB how are you guys doing.

Have not been on this forum for ages, it seemed to die out a while back, but looks like things are looking beter again.

I've been having quality problems with the antennas from M...iro, even the one's supplied from Poy...you...know..who.

5.8 Ghz next anyone...:)

hi, can anyone help me with configuring high sites? i need to gain the knowledge as my boss wants me to do 50 high sites within the next 3 - 4 months.
does anyone know of a college of some sort? or even a manual? i know alot about wireless networking but not sure what goes on at the high site itself

Can you drive a 4x4?

If so, can you drive a 4x4 properly in the rain?

That's the first place to start.

Most of these mountains have clay on them. If you can't control your vehicle, you and it are going one way?

Four days after stops raining, the road up to Helderberg and Sir Lowry's pass are still slippery as snot.

Last year guys working for Grassie Coetzee lost control of their vehicle and ended up in a mangled mess.

* Workshop skills will help you alot in manufacturing your own workarounds, towers
* Negotiation skills in securing lease from the landlord

portcullis, did you see that Uno, I think, awhile ago wrapped around the tree on Helderberg, someone got very sore there.

I agree with portcullis, too have good hisites you need to be prepared to 4x4 forget using a car to get there it's just not going to happen. There is only 1 hisite in the area that has a tar road going all the way to the top of it, but it's not a good site to use, covered in cloud in winter and snow.

warwickw, I saw that mess.

Stupid, stupid people. It's situations like that, that support the theory of natural selection.

Guess who's doing the annual swop over from all terrain tyres to mud terrain tyres on the V8 Land Rover this morning ... I need to work up there next week.
