How do they manage that or is there a catch?
Seems like a bargain against the others

They are possibly hoping that people @ 192k are not huge downloaders and will not reach their full cap.

Maybe they are overselling , or maybe simply taking a loss now to get clients.

The marketing game is rather brutal.

search the forum they are legit. I have personally used them since last year without problems.

Two of my friends are with them, and they haven't complained about it. Looks like a good option to me.

I use them too! They are very good, the debit order goes off on the 3rd and the service is very good, its the same speed and pings as telkom isp.

I have used them for over a year now. No problems.

Their emails can be a bit annoying :D , but other than that well worth it, and I have never had a problem (like incorrect billing, or "missing" bandwidth etc")

Can you use a 192k account on a DSL 384 or DSL 512 etc line? If so, what speeds do you get?

AFAIK you need to be using DSL 192k to use the 192k account. Otherwise you need to pay for the 384k or 512k...

Well, from what I have read, they trust you to some extent, but if they find out you are connecting at a higher speed, they will make you pay the higher subscription...

yeah, thats true.

The only other catch is that you can't pop (retrieve) any email from other ISP's... so if you have an account with Telkom or Mweb or whatever, you can't download it using Outlook.

are you sure about that? dont you mean you can't send to other SMTP's? cos what about people that have thier own domain's and e-mail acc's?

you have to host your domain and email with Cybersmart then... that's why they do it.

How would they "find out"?

not true.
My email is hosted at IS, and I send receive on my cybersmart DSL account.
They charged me extra for that though (R40 per month).

I don't think they need to, I beleive they've blocked external POP acccess... don't ask my how as I'm not sure of thier technical setup... perhaps ask them.

I beleive they use some kind of IPC to SAIX's network, which they manage.

They simply check the IPC logs, I would guess and they can see what speed you connect at?

They probably have some sort of exception report which they product on a monthly basis, which spits out all discrepencies.

But someone who is more versed in ADSL technologies may be able to give a more technical explanation
