Moving into a new house within the next month.

Please advise me with your knowledge on what is the better option..

Thanx in advance.

PS. I am currently using iBurst and have checked that both the exchange offers DSL and that the iBurst has full coverage on the site.

Iburst is not good for DLing ...and adsl is... iburst connection speeds depends on where you are and what time it is

adsl has none of the above ussues

if you go adsl be prepared to take telscum bullsh!t service
definetly for adsl get the 1024 line not 512 much better and faster also get the "all you can eat" 30 gig account for 680 pm.

and you can cancell your 3 gig cap with telkom don't let they tell you some sap stories about other isp's etc... it will effect speeds etc

if you do get adsl in your home be prepared to wait longer than 2 to 3months for installations... unless you have alreaddy aplied for it

Comparing iBurst and ADSL (both 1024)

ADSL wins hands down. Better pings, cheaper per gig (Even though it's heavily over priced) and once its installed properly and in there, you will thank your stars you got it.

iBurst, pings suck, price per gig suck, towers can go down at a moments notice and their support is even more useless than Telkom's (trust me, been there done that bought the tshirt)

would you rather concider 3g hsdpa vodacome or mtn than adsl?

Thank you for your quick response.

Secondly, nukecap.co.za or allyoucaneat.co.za??

I'll be the line for download purposes. Wouldn't the 512k line be more affordable as i would reach my cap quicker with the 1024k line?

the 512k would be more affordible but if you can pay abit more and get 1024 it would be much better than 512 + the 512k and the all you can eat package becuase i think telkom is charging about 870 pm for 3gig cap so yea the all you can it will work out cheaper and they give you an account on the same day you pay them for subscribtions...

btw if you are inline for DLing then ADSL would be more suffiecient...

Allright so i guess ive done my homework, pls let me know what u think:

1) ADSL 512k: R477 per month
2) 2 x 2GB Nukecap package (60 Gigs local): R350 per month

Month total : R827 pm

Am i allowed to advertise the selling of iBurst UTD on this forum?

urm guys please explain to me

Iburst is not good for DLing ...and adsl is... iburst connection speeds depends on where you are and what time it is
How in the world is a download of say ATI or nvidia drives at +-139kbps (iburst) is better than +-60kbps (adsl)?
if you are talking about direct downloading... Torrents/P2P are shaped by both companies!

ADSL wins hands down. Better pings, cheaper per gig (Even though it's heavily over priced) and once its installed properly and in there, you will thank your stars you got it.
Yes Better pings for gaming, BUT cheaper per gig????

ADSL Line
Business & HomeDSL 512 - Installation: R404.00 Monthly rental: R477.00 and then additional (DSL LINE)

ISP Charge
From telkom
3GB Shaped TIpA Premium R269.00 OR
3GB Shaped TIpA Advanced R249.00

a complete list please visit

http://www.hellkom.co.za/ispprices.php?type=adsl&op==&cap=3

Telephone line
Residential line rental (exchange connection) Installation: R316.10 Monthly fee: R92.28

So for R818.28 excluding installation charges

Then Hard cap after your 3gig is used (i.e NO MORE INET UNLESS YOU PAY FOR MORE BANDWIDTH).
__________________________________________
Iburst 3gig package - R679 per month including UTC or UTU on 24 month contract OR R 599 per month excluding UT on 30 day notice contract. Once capped you will be throttled to 64k

Additional bandwidth can be bought at R159/1GByte or R379/1GByte

So guys tell me,
R879 is cheaper than R679? Please do your research properly before making absurd statements like that!

without even reading the body of the topic i will immediately say adsl, its like comparing a 1950 VW bettle vs a Koenniggsegg CCX

No not at all, you pay WAY too much per gig than with normal ADSL. I'd say, get ADSL, you have multiple choice in ISP's and can switch at any time without having to buy new hardware.

With wireless providers, if you want to switch (between Sentech/iBurst/Voda/MTN)

You'd need a different modem for each, and each of these providers also has the ISP side of things, meaning, you HAVE to pay the price per gig they ask.

If you're REALLY looking for a wireless option, I'd say iBurst wins hands down at this stage (mobility may be a problem, but if you only use it at home its nice)

But prepared for high pings and some problems if towers go offline.

With ADSL, Telkom provides the physical line, and you can choose between different ISP's and their price offerings. I'm currently with Web Africa on their 3gig package for 199.98 per month. But nothing stops me from switch to another ISP at a drop of a hat.

Id rather recommend Web Africa because they have a pre-paid option. You load pre-paid gigs onto your 3gig package, and those gigs NEVER expire. So if you don't use all your pre-paid gigs, you don't lose it and it carries over to the following month.

Plus, as far as I know they're the cheapest per gig at this moment.

If you go with the 192k ADSL option, you also have the option to upgrade FOR FREE to 384/512 and 1024.

If you game online (or even consider starting) ADSL is definately the way to go.

That is a false statement. If there is ONE thing that Iburst excels at, it is downloading. I'm disappointed when a file comes down slower than 100KB/s, local or international. Fortunataly, that doesn't happen too often.

YOUR JOKING RIGHT IBURST OR ADSL

lol adsl by a mile if you can get it

dont ask anymore questions just go apply now

rofl your sure your files always go over 100kb?

you sure its not kilobits as opposed to kilo bytes?

See, with ADSL 1024, you get a constant 100-114Kb/s (btw, there is a difference between Kb and kb, like calorie and Calorie)

With iBurst you can download up to 1024kb/s (or around 110Kb/s) this all depends on signal, amount of trees in the way, the alignment of the moon, if it's St. Patty's day etc

With ADSL 1024, that is what you get, 1024kb/s (or around 110Kb/s) constant. No "up to" or signal crap. If it rains your modem doesn't die (unless hit by lightning) and you don't have to put up expensive antenna's to boost a signal that will only give you 5Kb/s speed extra with a bit more stability.

Hmm... I dont agree AcidRazor, if you have good Iburst coverage your speed is pretty consistent. Limnos (orig. poster) says Iburst have full coverage in his area so that shouldnt be a problem. And yes, Iburst does reach 100kb all the time if you have a good connection, nothing to do with trees the moon or anything.

And when has anyones Iburst died from the rain? Or even from lighting like ADSL does?

For a price-wise choice, getting 1024kb ADSL and a 680 30gig account is going to cost you a $h1t load more thand Iburst where you can pull content off the Iburst p2p hub onced capped or atleast have 64kb access.

Well it seems that the poster is talking about 512kb ADSL anyway, a better choice I would say. This means that Iburst will definately be faster if hes getting full signal. Pings are also fine for gaming, albeit only local, if you have a good connection, on warcraft I usually get around 80-150ms ping times, usually under 100ms after about 8pm, when most people game anyway. Many eople also play BF2 with Iburst, but this can be laggy on a even somewhat bad connection I must admit.

Well that was just defending Iburst from these people who are insulting it, the point is just that it isn't as bad as anyone is making it out to be.

Unfortuanately atm I would have to say the with the pricing deals from IS ISP's for local content and then the speed/pings from SAIX a ADSL connection might be a better idea. You can combine these two accounts and therefore keep int. access while downloading tons from local.

Ekhaatvensters and the many others that commented, thnx for the help.

I'll let u know how long the WAIT is for ADSL. I reckon im gonna go driving around and look for a technician on a pole and kidnap him.

Later dudes..

I had iBurst, I was/is in a full coverage area. And I never had such inconsistant speeds EVER. Plus, they fcuked up the billing just like Sentech did, so I decided enough is enough.

You may defend iBurst, but I speak of end-user experience...

All we can reliably share on this forum is our end-user experience. Everything else is hot air.

Im talking of end user-experience of course... my self and a few friends with Iburst. Okay I'm shure there are exceptions, but everyone that I have come across who has Iburst in a good area has had perfectly fine connections. Yet speeds are of course a bit inconsistent, but you usually dont stray very far away from your usual download pattern, for me the speed drops a bit once every minute or so and then jumps back up to normal. But I dont have the best connection around at all, I have to use an antenna etc.
