many.many,many threads on this subject.
Do a search on "newsbin" and "newsbin"

In short, I recommend newzbin Pro ($30) and www.newzbin.com.

Do the search, and you will find more info than you can take in all at once!
:D
Any questions AFTER reading the posts, then PM me for some tips.

Think grabit is free, am not sure, I'm using Newsleecher, its something like $29 and you get there super search function (used for searching for specific files). And then i use SABnzdb for my nzb files, its free and works like a charm.

With most search functionality (like supersearch on newsleecher and newzbin.com), you are going to have to pay a fee, but its worth it.

You search for whatever content you want, and with newsleecher, you quickly create an nzb file if there is none (with the supersearch functionality), or you get the nzb file from newzbin. Import it into
SABnzdb and off you go

Well I would say the best option is Openweb, i currently have a 7gb internation with 23gig local (192k on openbrowse), and its been working fine. This month I also bought myself 30gig local just for the news server for R139, and that thing has been running like mad

Ok i am making progress with learning how to use news servers...could anyone recommend or list some groups for me to check out and try?

do not mess with the news groups directly, but rather use a nzb service. newzbin.com is a good start - you can buy credit @ around 2-3 rands per week.
Then, you search that service like you search torrents etc, find the file you want, and download the "torrent file" into your reader, and it downloads.

It is so cheap? What does that get you and how do you pay?

pay by cc (there are a few other options, but they are not too good for SA).
it is indeed that cheap! :D I paid around R60 for 9-10 months....

what does it get you?
an excellent search engine, and good nzb's
For example, say you want to get Lost Season 1 - do a search for
Lost 1 in category "TV All", and a list appears.
Select what you want, and download the NZB file.
Import the file into your reader (it needs to support NZB files!), and away you go.

EDIT: You can so searches etc without paying - but cannot download the NZB files - try that out first and you will get the feel for it.

excellent! This is good news indeed. What with the death of uncapped local, torrents uploads are killing my bandwidth.

I take it cc = credit card? I do not have one. Any further suggestions??

pretty sure a mastercard / visa debit card would work. PnP Go Banking etc.
Otherwise, persuade a friend or family member to loan you theirs.

fair enough, but comapred to newzbin.com, that site is poorly layed out and difficult to use.

newzbin is still tops.
:)

Quick question, when you subscribe to newzbin, do they widen their search to more newsgroups? I have been trying their free search, and most of the time I get a cannot find any results.

I dont want to subscribe if thats all I am going to get, I am currently subscribed with newsleecher and their supersearch function, which is excellent, but it does not really search for nzb files, it looks for header info

tell me, or PM me, what you are looking for. Let me see if i can find it - it may be the sub level (do not think so), or something you may have overlooked.

sublevel??

@ Moederloos : I subscribe to newzbin but am not sure what you mean by sublevel??

stupidity on my part - I meant that to mean the difference between guest rights and subscriber rights.
