Telkom announced on Monday that it filed for a cut in ADSL rental of up to 32% and an overall price cut of 2.1% with the independent telecommunications authority Icasa.

The price changes will take effect on August 1 2006 if they are approved by the Independent Communication Authority of South Africa.

In addition to these proposed price reductions, Hayward said that Telkom's price filing would also make DSL rentals "much more affordable".

The proposed DSL 192 and 384 monthly rental is R245 from August 1 2006 - a price decrease of R25 (9.3%) on the former and R114 (31.8%) on the latter.

There are also reductions of 24.1% on the monthly rentals for DSL 512 and DSL 1024. The proposed new monthly rental for DSL 512 is R362 (down from the current R477 monthly rental) while DSL 1024 monthly rentals are set to drop by R164 to R516.

The indicated DSL prices exclude ISP costs, line rental and call charges.
 
It seems to be a start, but still way higher than it should be.

Yep - that's Telkom for you. Still way above international price, but for them it's huge.
 
R25 isn't huge ! Waiving DSl rental would be huge - prehaps people shouldn't use telkom press releases in articles.....

Paying R500 + for rental on a service that doesn't come close to what it is advertised as is a HUGE LIE !!!!

Well, like we all said already - it is'nt huge, but I'll rather pay 362 for than 477 for my 512 line - dont know maybe it's just me.

Yes HUGE because Telkom says it is. With my price cut I can buy one more GB of data, wooo ha.

And what is it with having to wait until August, why can't they do it in July?

Yet again the monopoly is bending you over, no vaseline!

Do yourself a favour, scroll back 1 year in the posts and you are reading the same crap as last year.

News24 on crack publishing headlines like this?
Kindly explain the 'huge' portion of this, anybody. I am actually struggling to see / find the relief bit.
