Cybersmart Terrible Speeds

Hi Im just checking to see if anyone else is experiencing terrible speeds on the cybersmart home uncapped 1mb line option? Now i know there is a contention ratio on this option with cybersmart, but it is advertised as fast speeds, and when i spoke to a consultant they said i probably would not notice a difference, only if everyone was downloading at the same time. Now i have been a cybersmart customer for a few years now but it is getting to the point where i am considering changing isp's. Firstly some nights i cant even load the speedtest.net website. So i test it on the mybb speedtest and get speeds of 0.20 - 0.40 mbps and at times my upload is higher than my download. This whole speed thing is depressing. I enjoy gaming, and i cant even game on the line some nights. is it worth going to the mweb shaped account, bearing in mind that cybersmart is unshaped? Any ideas oh smart ones?
 
Mine has generally been the same as when I was on capped, but the last few days (since Saturday) it has been slow most of the time. Ran a speed test this evening and got 0.4Mbps but was on Youtube afterwards and the videos were streaming at 2Mbps speeds.
 
The only thing cybersmart delivers on is horrible speeds and bad customer service.
 
I recently decided to move over from MWEB to cybersmart, as my ADSL line is still with Cybersmart and it would save me quite a few bucks on thier 4MB uncapped option, the service started on the 1st of September, i used the account for about 3 hours after frustration got to me and i purchased a afrihost 4MB uncapped data account which is perfomingly perfectly.
Suffice to say my cancellation letter went through first thing monday morning, I would not recommend Cybersmart uncapped to anyone.
 
people still use cybersmart?

well, my gf's parents do so i guess that answers that :-)

they have been complaining about really bad speeds the past few days too, since the weekend.
 
Ok so who is the recommended ISP for uncapped? Afrihost? What are their download policies like?
 
I just moved from Cybersmart to MWEB, I am actually able to download and watch youtube clips during the day now. My 1MB uncapped MWEB account is faster with browsing that my 2MB Cybersmart account. After hours downloading P2P may be different between these different speeds, but I actually use the internet as well, dammit!

What I find interesting is that no-one from cybersmart has even commented here. Mweb has mweb guy and afrihost has afriman. Seems there is no concern for customers. So blunt you say mweb. What do you use your Internet for, gaming? And what kinda speeds will I get with mweb on a 1b line?
 
I am currently on the cybersmart 1mbps uncapped package and to say i'm unhappy is an understatement. Pathetically slow, horrible customer service...

I sent an email stating that I want my line moved back to Telkom as soon as possible and eventually got a reply that, in broken english, asked why I want to move... That was all. I replied and now I'm waiting longer for another reply.

I'm moving to Mweb/Afrihost 4mbps AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
 
Hey mulacasto please let me know what they say, because I sent endless emails complaining about speed. Every time the answer has been " we had a problem with the line" or " we have reset the port" blah blah. This is getting a bit much now.

Hi

I can't explain why, but I have no issues with speed on uncapped. Speedtest comes back at close to 1Mbs on a Mb line. Ping at 35ms.....
 
Same Here. On 2MB line and when downloading from Astraweb the download starts off fine for about ten seconds and then slowed down to a steady 36kB/s!! If changing to my Afrihost account everything is fine.

What is going on with cybersmart? Have been a long standing customer for almost 4-5 years.

Or is it a 2M issue?
 
No ways dude I'm on the 1mb line and I get ridiculously slow speeds at times. I've also been a customer for about 4 years, have had no problems up until recently.
 
Ok so second night in a row, and my download is 0.30mbps on a 1 mb line. This is retarded!
 
Mweb gives out free 7 day trial accounts, test for yourself and you will see. Costs more for their connectivity but makes all the diff. I work from home so i do a lot of ssh/http/https/ftp/sftp'ing as well as musicc streaming (spotify) - not a gamer though, but i use during the day more than anythig else and mweb is always perfect. Im on 2mb uncapped and avg around 100gb a month. I download using torrents and have no issues there either

Clearly there is an issue looking at the number of people complaining, but I don't think it's simply Cybersmart. Both on my home line and at work I get decent speeds.
