The violent nature of crime in South Africa is to be investigated as part of a revamped crime fighting plan, Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula said on Tuesday.

During a media briefing in Pretoria, Nqakula also provided further details of the strategy endorsed by Cabinet at its lekgotla last week.

"The JCPS (justice, crime prevention and security Cabinet cluster) is worried about the violent nature of crime in South Africa.

"Cabinet has endorsed a recommendation to commission a study on the matter by the Institute for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation.

Yay, I bet its another committe to talk about things, wonder how many will die while they drag their feet and spend our tax money?

I would surely hope their "revamped crime fighting plan" has had something to do with the pressure from local crime sites (crimeexpo/saiscrap) tho.

talk yakiti yap yap

it is all those lazy asses can do...

they are probaly moaning why they cant drink beer whilst they are debating

eish we should remove these cameras... then we can drink beer, rape the women and children

eish it would be like the old days before we tried civilitation

This being the same Nqakula who told the country to STFU and leave if they don't like it:

Crime whingers can leave, says Nqakula June 02 2006
In response, Nqakula said his department had a programme to deal with those who undermined its efforts to ensure peace and security. 'A case is a case, no matter who is involved' But then he said there were other ways to deal with those who continued to complain.

"Those ones can continue to whinge away, they can continue to attack everything that we do, they can continue to be as negative as they want, in the end it is the many people out there who for many years have been crying for peace and stability in South Africa who determine who rules this country," Nqakula said.

"They can continue to whinge until they're blue in the face, they can continue to be as negative as they want to or they can simply leave this country so that all of the peace-loving South Africans, good South African people who want to make this a successful country, can continue with their work."

Is he taking drugs? How do we go from whingers to a "national response" in a few weeks? WTF - if the questions hadn't been asked no "national response" would exist - but we're the whingers... for the Trolls on this forum - be happy in a democracy otherwise these questions wouldn't be asked - and it would be one long orgy on the gravy train (soon to be zuma's gravy train - and there's a man who understands orgies...)

And WhyTF wasn't this the response immediately instead of being told to go blue in the face - and why are these measures only being implemented now? And while you sorting out this "nature of crime" sort out the rape of the consumer and telecommunications fiasco and AIDS fiasco in this country (amongst the rest):

Violent nature of crime to be probed: Nqakula
The agencies were working together with Business Against Crime, the South African Banking Council and the South African Reserve Bank to improve security measures to curb aggravated robbery.

Special teams had been established in the provinces to deal with organised crime, while other teams would concentrate on finding suspects against whom there were outstanding warrants of arrest. "Our intelligence units have been put on alert to gather relevant information to facilitate investigations," Nqakula said. All border control measures were being reviewed to deal with cross-border crime. A national border control and security strategy had been finalised and a national border control centre established to house the project. All requirements regarding personnel, information, communications and technology as well as security infrastructure would be in place by the end of August. Nqakula said the national response to crime also included mobilising communities

From a bunch of whingers it has now become a "national response".

Way To Go!! Oh - and the real kicker:

"The JCPS (justice, crime prevention and security Cabinet cluster) is worried about the violent nature of crime in South Africa.

"Cabinet has endorsed a recommendation to commission a study on the matter by the Institute for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation.

But - then again - more cosy conferences on the gravy train.

Its like that other minister said about car-theft some time back -

The Reason there are so many car-jackings is cos so many people own nice cars,Limit the amnt of new cars and car-theft will go down

why do we waste our time on debating this...

look at the rest of africa.... that is our future

stop talking and start packing your bags

if you want 1st world you not gonna get it here

for ages africa has lagged behind becaues they are too stupid and too lazy and too greedy to care about the rest

look at how the xhosa and zulu villages were run...
http://webs.wofford.edu/mandlovenb/SAfrica/content/xhosa.html

women did most of the work and the men drank beer

so maybe if we kick out all the men and give the women a go, things might actually start to happen.

I wonder what happened to the N2 security plan that the ANC MEC of Security, Leonard Ramatlakane mooted? Since he said that there'd be "beefed up patrols", more people have either had a smashed window and died - so much for the plan, you useless politician!

I still wonder how the ANC go into power in the Cape? Probably via some corrupt deals with IEC. Because certainly the black population is much smaller in the WC than other areas (thank god for that!). The only explanation is bussing "the masses" from the Eastern Cape me thinks...

a day in the life of a SA politician

11h00 [wakesup] eish what a day
12h00 where is my beer
13h00 where is my food
14h00 where is my women to rape
15h00 where is someone to corrupt or steal from
16h00 eaish what a hard day
17h00 eish look at the news
18h00 must come up with come back speech
19h00 where is my beer
20h00 [passed out]

I'm sorry, when did Government ever say they were not concerned about crime, or not willing to do anything about it. Once again when Govt steps up and takes action you complain, instead of at least trying to support the initiatives and complaining if it does not work.

This leaves me to believe, that your sole purpose is to try and discredit govt. as you can not accept that blacks are running the country better than the Nats who ran it into debt

You sound unimistakably like someone else on this forum. Are you perhaps an alt?

Regardless, its the governments duty to get it sorted and they sure have enough tax money from us to do it. Until such time that it isn't a problem anymore people will complain.

The first thing I would do if it were up to me is cut all the protection that these ministers get. When they live in SA like the rest of the population maybe they will sort things out quicker.

Of course it is the Government's duty, and they are trying, albeit, slowly to turn the situation around, Government has never ( despite popular opinion - at least on these forums ) denied or tried to hide the problem.

But you as a citizen of this country also have a responsibility to solve the problems of the country, it is the people, not the Government, who make a country what it is. Or the USA and UK with morons as leaders would be in the doldrums

Also I am not an alt - I know it is difficult for you to believe that there may be more people on this forum who agree with my thinking, but if you wake up you will realise there is a whole country of people who think this way

They have only SAID they will take action (on THIS proposed activity), they have done a number of raids recently but since it was before this announcement, it cant really be included and are subject fo previous announcements.

Thanks supersunbird, for admitting that the SAPS and therefore the Government is hard at work fighting crime, wouldn't it be nice if more people saw things in a positive light the way you do :D

Hard at work? More like leisurely at work. Cases of unanswered and just-transferred-around to 10111 abound and that is one of the primary contacts with police. What about the cops that collect "illegal immigrants" just so they can get bribed to release them?

I'd love to see them hard at work...

Child and baby rape
- During a recent parliamentary debate on child abuse in South Africa, it was reported that there has been a 400% increase in the sexual violence against children over the past decade. The majority of the victims are 12 years old or younger. Many of the perpetrators are themselves children (source: BBC).
- Baby rape is not a new phenomenon in South African society, but it is becoming more common. One possible reason, say Aids activists, is the myth, widespread in southern Africa, that sex with a child or baby will rid a man of HIV or Aids.
- A child is abused every 8 minutes in SA
- A child is raped every 24 minutes.
- A child is assaulted every 14 minutes.
- 85-90% of perpetrators are known to the child.
- 1 in 4 girls & 1 in 5 boys under 16 yrs have been sexually abused.
- 1/2 of 26 000 Johannesburg high school students interviewed believe that forced sex is not sexual violence.
- In one SA township, all girls (mean age 16.4 yrs) had had sexual intercourse. 1/3 said their 1st experience was rape or forced sex. 2/3 teens said they'd experienced sex against their will.
- The rape graph rises sharply from 3 to 25 year old girls and peaks at girls age 8 to 11 years.

all I will do in reply is to quote from http://www.standtogether.co.za

As members of society we are responsible for ourselves, our families and for one another, for how we treat each other and how we live together. There are certain social crimes like violence against women, child abuse and drug and alcohol abuse that only we have the power to combat. This is our responsibility as individuals.
