The new MacBooks and MacBook Pros are real workhorses and definitely good value for money, especially if you can source one from the US.

Unfortunately you'll need to wait for the universal versions of Adobe CS to get all the benefits of the new CPU. Still, from what I understand the new macs run the PowerPC versions well - better than on the best of the old PowerPC machines in fact. Hopefully Adobe will pull their collective fingers out and get it sorted.

I'd probably buy the PowerBook - acquire the PowerPC version of CS2 then buy the universal when it comes out.
Doesn't it actually have to arrive before you can say goodbye?
The SNO, PS3 and Vista are imminent.

I heard that they are going to offer an upgrade to the universal verions ....
Wouldnt surprise me. I'm sticking with my powerbook and the first CS until they make the switch - then I'll upgrade.

The rumour/discussion sites are saying that Adobe will be going universal binary only in the next version of CS (and maybe by individual package release).

Seems to me that with the new Mac Pro spec that CS2 will run faster than on the G5 even on Rosetta. The delays with Vista mean that there will probably be an Intel (Leopard compatible?) release of the Adobe stuff before there is a Win version.

I wouldn't recommend using the MacBooks or MBP's for CS2 under rosetta if the performance of stuff like Office 2004 is anything to go by. Rosetta apps go jumping-jack crazy on launch, while native apps get maybe two or three nods before they are ready to use.

BTW the new hardware/software is up on Apple's site and the G5 has already dissapeared from the Apple online store.

The changes for Leopard seem more incremental than a huge step change, its a bit dissapointing considering the hype.
