Hi All,
as a dial user on infinite call I have my alarm set to 6.55am each morning during the week.
Is there a utility I can get that will turn off my modem or could someone write some basic or C prog that could do it for me? I sometimes oversleep and then realize after 4 hours Im going to have a bad phone bill (Funnily enough I never get random disconnects when Im paying by the minute :))

I did see some reg hacks one can use but I was hoping for a 'cleaner' solution.

You can make a .bat file that runs the "shutdown /s" command" then set task schedular to run it at 6:55, there are utility's that can do it as well but I cant rember any off hand

i have a program called ampwinoff....has an option to shut down whole computer or you can just disconnect modem...

There are lots of these, most downlaod managers also have this feature.. um ill try find the one I used quickly.. it was very small and simple, but worked perfectly.

EDIT: okay screw it, I cant find it.but just type what you want into google or into some software sit, you'll find it quickly enough

Hi all and thanks for the replies. Ekhaatvensters, I thought that as well but it was actually hard to find one that was free and simple.
BrianB, Genius! I should really have thought of that :) Actually all sorts of things one can do with the task scheduler and .bat files...actualy, i cant think of many others (Ill google it :))
Christiaan, thanks. Ill check it out.

-tom<---will be sleeping soundly

p.s An after thought (b4 I get to google) how about a .bat file to dial up for you?

Do you necessarily have to shutdown?
c:\windows\system32\rasdial [entryname] /DISCONNECT
where [entryname] is what you called your dialup connection.
Add that to scheduled tasks, tell it to run every second from 6:55 till 8am Monday-Friday (so that you don't disconnect on weekends) and sleep peacefully ;).

Just remember to disable it should you need to connect urgently before 8am some morning ;p

Cool Gilespie, that looks like a fine idea too. I will check it out.
BrianB...just a quickie, I used the shutdown -s command in the scheduler on a a file called shutdown.bat...went into infinite loop and did not execute! After Googling I find out you can call the script anything EXCEPT shutdown.bat!! Typical. Called it powerdown.bat and all wnet well.
Thanks for the help ppl.

rasdial /? Hmmm Interesting. Glad Im still learning stuff here.

This works great for me.

Just set the time it has to do it's thing and your set.

PS. I've had that "sleep late" problem last month. Forgot to use this and had a nice R70 dial-up charge for that one time.

Thanks for this mention, I just started using it this week and it's working out great. I get my PC to restart at 6:58am, as most of the time I'm still in the shower. Hopefully this will stop the EXTREMELY high Telscum bills when I go just SLIGHTLY over the 7am mark.

:L:
