My adsl is perfect most of the time. But only once every week or 2, when I get home in the evening, it's dead. The dsl internet lights on the telkom router is on, but nothing happens. Then all i do is restart the router, and every thing is back again.

My line is a telkom line, and the internet from mweb (uncapped).

Maybe a setting on the router that must be changed?

Telkom billion one. It works fine all the time, as said, just every now and then.

Ye, it's a tricky one to diagnose when you cannot replicate the problem at will. To me it sounds like a router issue - also just check that you are running the latest firmware on the router.

Not sure if it helps, but if you're using DHCP network configuration, perhaps the lease isn't being renewed automatically and is expiring and not letting your pc connect? If thats the case you just need to renew the lease and it should start working fine again.

Hi, thanks for the info. I'm not sure how to renew the lease, its the first time I hear of it. Can you pls guide me to the correct settings? Thanks

If you are running Windows, open the command prompt (Start -> Run -> type: command) and then in the command prompt type:

Code:
ipconfig /renew

That's the quickest way I know how to do it.

The problem is that for me it happens once every 2 weeks or so.
Does it mean we have to renew the lease every time or switch off and on.

This doesn't seem like a long term solution esp since I never had a problem like this with other routers.

Anything in the settings below that need changing perhaps like the lease time?

My settings are exactly like that.

On my side the networked device gets an IP address from the dhcp....there is just no Internet connectivity until u reboot the router.
