I have been with iBurst since beginning of Oct. The dashboard has always indicated signal strength of 99% consistantly. My download speed was usually as high as 500kbps.

Since yesterday the signal strength is never more than 40%. My download speed are less than 200kbps. On enquiry the helpdesk emailed that the technitian is working on a problem with the 'Pretoria' towers. Now I don't know how many towers we have in Pta but I connect to the Meyerspark tower. This is very frustrating as I download a lot of emails and docs from work.

Does anybody here experience the same thing?

Hi esterl!

Pretoria has 13 base stations, and growing. "Meyerspark" is actually known as "Chambord" - it is a base station on the eastern side of the roof of Chambord Flats located on the hill in La Montagne, overlooking Meyers Park, among other areas.

Ed Hall of iBurst confirmed a problem on the Menlo Park base station. It is as if the base station has vanished - no signal whatsoever.

I assume that Chambord is having the same problem and that you are actually getting a 40% (or less) signal from a different base station - and that's why the download speeds are lower.

What really peeves me is that their Network Status page not only contradicts the Incident Report page (have a look) but also reflects that all is green and swell when THEY ARE SAYING that it isn't, in fact, all green and swell...

Interesting......I was on the "vanished" station until 12 last night, happily playing TM nations. Since I can't connect to any other tower, I assume the tower went into hiding at my place :D

Hi D

I am in Lynnwood Glen. I am in a street with 'fair coverage' and was told to point my antenna to Meyerspark/Chambord. How do I find the nearest BS to me? I apologise if I am boring some people, but most of the technical stuff is just 'greek' to me.

By the way, my signal strenght is back to 99% and stable.

Well at 99% it sounds like you are doing alright already, but best to check with UTtracestar. You can get it from the stickied posts on this forum..

With that you can see your signal to a great extent that using the iBurst application. You get a signal strength in -Db. The lower this value the better the signal, so you can move your antenna around to find the best signal in Db.

I read through all the newbie stickies, including the UTtracestar (12 pages). Downloaded ms .Net. as instructed at the beginning of the download page on UTtracestar. Downloaded the software to my laptop and then tried to ran it. Does not want to work. The screen returns with blank spaces everywhere. I don't know what all the settings mean. There were no screeens that prompted me to fill in certain specs (don't know if it is as a result of trying to run the software from my laptop in stead of from the website:?)

Anyway, I am a single user connecting to iBurst with my laptop and new black USB modem. The software seems to expect that I am on a network. Don't know how to fix it? Tried to log a query on the UTtracestar website It keeps on throwing me out.

Maybe you (or anybody with time and patience) can pm me and I won't bore all the rest who know what to do.

My connection is stable again and as you say it is a good reception. However, reading all the complaints in this forum, it seems that it is best to have all possible tools handy. That is why I want to install the software to see which is my best tower, as it might change in the future.

Will appreciate any help.
