Hi there

Is there a way to force an remote PC to change its IP address should you be unable to access it for longer than a day?

Or is there an utility which will check for the ability to upload/download a file, and when it cannot be done (due to an dead IP) will force a reconnection to obtain a new, working IP?

I'm battling with the one remote site, and the techie just doesn't understand what we means by "reset the modem"...

More info?

Hi Lib

Use the Remote Management option on the router if it has one, or make use of Remote desktop on the PC concerned, login and configure the IP.

Please provide more details of the current setup of the network, might have a solution, but require more info…

Remote Desktop/VNC doesn't want to work, although you can ping the server in question. (Note that this happens when we get a "dead" IP - most of the time we are able to RD or VNC in to this specific server without hassles).

It is a windows2003 server.

We connected the iBurst modem via PPPoE.

I have got the DynDNS update applet running, to force the line to stay up, and to propagate the new IP via DynDNS.org

The iBurst modem is the new black model, I'm not sure if it's got the Remote Management option enabled or installed.

Cheers

Auto dialer?

This might be an interim solution:

At present I can only think of an auto timed dialler… Not sure if this is the ideal solution, maybe a work around?

“BySoft Internet Remote Control 2.6 enables remote monitoring and control of a DialUp connection. It also enables message communication between connected users and remote program execution on the server. Internet Remote Control consists of two programs: IRServer and IRClient. The IRServer is installed on the computer that has Internet DialUp connection, and IRClient is installed on all other computers that need to monitor and control connection. Clients can dial, disconnect, communicate and run programs on server.”
