I've tried to list according to value but this is completely subjective.

Cell C still has the best prepaid deal at R2500 for 100GB daytime data valid for a year.

Doesn't work for me, my home Cell C reception has gone from hero to zero, but it does work for other people that I know.

I've listed many great options. Do none of them appeal to you?

But I have family that use less than 2GB per month, so a 25GB Telkom deal valid for a year would be great.

The six month expiry on their offering kills it, better to get the 60GB deal.

Nope, don't do contracts for data, and the prepaid offerings don't work.

As I said, the Cell C Giga100 and Giga200 are great, but not many people can use them (due to poor coverage).

I would venture a guess and say that the really big packages (100GB and upward) would generally be geared towards people looking for an alternative to fixed broadband. Seen in that light, the prices are quite high and don't really compare well.

I use about 100GB per month, but I don't really want to pay R2k per month. Yes, the speed is superior, but if you don't specifically require that speed, then it remains quite expensive.

Yes, mobile broadband will remain a premium service. It also has to be weighed up against fixed wireless services like BitCo. At least we are spoilt for choice!

Is that R2k for 100GB/month?

This doesn't seem too bad.
Could up the speeds a bit though.

Where you have to have LTE for whatever reason (and BitCo 5Mbps still isn't good enough), most of these deals will be golden. I compare to BitCo 5Mbps because that product allows YouTube 720p, I think, and other similar HD streaming. ADSL 4Mbps could never do this for me and was therefore a complete disappointment in my eyes.

Again the bottom line is that LTE isn't for downloading. One doesn't need speed for downloading.

Another use case could be photo uploads (or cloud backups) where 7-8Mbps on TM LTE is going to kick ADSL (and fixed wireless) in the nads.

Comparable to an uncapped 2Mbps ADSL account really. I'd imagine it's only really feasible where copper doesn't reach, or was never rolled out. That said, they have guaranteed contention ratios and no-one else has that.

Hmm also the cntract thing is not appealing either.

It seems to me that there's nothing that can beat the Telkom 60 + 60 deal for big data consumption. Is there anything I should know before I pull the trigger? It's a big outlay but seems like there's nothing that can come close really.

What about Cell C min data charge compared to Telkom ?

How do these compare ?

The cheapest I've worked out is getting the Telkom Mobile 15Gb month on month package for R399 and buying a separate 60+60GB package on the same sim to roll over into when you run out of your monthly allocation. If you schedule your downloads / program updates between 11 PM and 5 AM to make use of the night surfer data the 15Gb can be stretched some distance.

I wish Telkom had a device free 50Gb LTE package. I'm not interested in paying Telkom R5000 over 24 months for the Huawei B593, when I can buy the LTE router for R2k from Makro.

Sounds cool, but is the data always used in the right order ?

Check with Telkom, but that what their rep suggested I should do when I was looking at the 20GB LTE package.
