MS took out a half-page ad in the Cape Times today in support of their anti-piracy campaign.

Below a picture of a mousetrap and cheese they have listed several companies in this country..

Savannah Computers (Cape Town)
Milltoo Computers CC
Janus Info Tech Solutions , JHB
Calcell (Vongteah Trading) Pretoria CBD.
NPCN CC (Universal Comp Systems) Pretoria
Multimedia Innovations (Discount Computer Centre) JHB
Computer & Cellular Dynamics, Roodepoort
Busimax Technologies, Roodepoort
Future Computers, Roodepoort

It is illegal to sell unlicensed or counterfeit software ! The companies, all of whom are computer resellers, appearing in this advertisement were found to be supplying unlicensed Microsoft software.

Microsoft is committed to stamping out software piracy - protecting end users and the legitimate sales
and distribution channel.

Don't be tempted by the sale of illegal software - make sure you're buying genuine Microsoft software.

To ensure you have the genuine article, visit www.genuine.co.za or call Microsoft on 0860 225567.
Is this a new tack for MS, and will it work?

hehe awesome.... That can't be good for the companies listed... I think it is a good tack and it while it won't stamp out piracy at all it will make these companies think a little more about it.

Actually, it merely hi-lites where one can go get a free copy of vista from - as it's illegal to sell, just ask them for a burnt copy!... I don't see how advertising who's pirates will make them loose money in any form or shame them because if i was some cheapskate looking for a cheaper alternative, these would be the companies i'd be buying from! - The Advert is merely Free Advertising for those companies!

So as long as customers know the disks are pirated it's OK?

Its a good idea and will make consumers aware of the shops. But is the same advert in a JHB paper as well ? Because whats the use of exposing JHB shops in a Cape Town paper ?

Pot calling the Kettle Black - MS are Pirates themselves No?

LOL :p

:) If you have a BIG collection of copied stuff, and looking for a cheap and nasty deal, and you come across the MS shame add, wouldn't you not go see what deal you can get if you can get a free illegal copy from them? Would you really give a damn if the copy is not legit?

If you have a stack of burnt illegal mp3's, a stack of Copied CD's, DVD's a couple of different versions of MSWindows Burnt copied hacked and cracked and ready for you to use when you wish - you clearly don't care! I bet you there are LOTS of people like this in south africa - and i'm also sure that there are more illegal copied of any given software out there than legit ones!... No?

But are these shops selling illegal copies at cheap prices or at real retail prices ?

Also, wont Microsoft give you a free license if you can prove you brought your system from an illegitimate reseller?

But surely if they know who these people are, won't they be suing the shyte out of these companies?

Well now we know where to go buy pc's from with everything on it ;)

I think so too. Stupid Microsoft.

Microsoft are big bullies when it comes to court action. Maybe they traded agreed to the name and shame idea instead of court time.
They must have had some proof to publish. Even the newspaper would be taking a risk.

Shame - because there are better COMMERCIAL and OPENSOURCE
alternatives to WINDOZE. Really people Windoze sucks.

Install Linux or keep XP Home (forget Pro you don't need it).
Buy a Mac.
