Just had yet another power failure  after having two yesterday:mad:

That's 4 in a week after one big one last friday and 5 this month

Last year the local newspaper reported on how the electricity infrastructure is collapsing due of utter incompetence(now the norm:o ) of those that run this city(and country:rolleyes:) and warned of regular power failures during winter.

It's now only March  I fear what July has in store for us

Haven't had any in a while here. Which is odd, since Midrand and my area of Centurion are particularly prone to outages.

But yeah, wait until the heaters come on... buy your blankets and jackets now, boys! :D

Generators are selling like hot cakes here in CT. Spar even sells them!
Even one of those little 700w ones is a worthwhile investment imo - cost less than a spare laptop battery and we've used our more times than I can count in the last 6 months.

Please go on ;)

How much?

Anymore info would be helpful

You find them everywhere these days - pnp, makro, builders etc.

Mine has a yellow tank on top but some are red, others green, others blue - all depends on who brand is on them. Thanks to the branding they're all a couple hundred rand ±r1000.

I run my 52cm tv (I'm a bit wary of using my plasma), PVR, ADSL, wireless network, a PC and a few laptops, and a half dozen lights (energy savers).

Thinking about getting a bigger one and wiring it into the board. Right now we end up having a half dozen extension cords lying around - not realy ideal with kids.

No failure of Smilies in that post though. ;)

How well do these small ones work with UPS boxes - 600VA?

I'm thinking of plugging a UPS into a generator and run my PC from the UPS to safeguard the electronics against surges.

Now I'm being told that it does not work because when the UPS switches from battery to 220V supply, the generator slows down, and the UPS swicthes back to battery because of the frequency//low voltage trigger. The generator speeds up again, and the UPS tries to switch over to 220V feed again with the gene slowing down again and everything repeating.

Keep posting negative news here alanf85 and you will find your posts removed.;)

oh I see; now you are preaching your pristine hygienics: must be superior.

Shame.

At least I didn't give you the finger straight back. :p

I'm above that  You can call it superior if you like :D

Nah. Some might want this forum to change to myleftwingnut.co.za but I have confidence in Bwana and co that they'll keep it fair ;)

How sickeningly ironic. Power went out at my offices about an hour after making my last post here. Sigh. :(

A UPS will always ragulate the voltage. unless you have an "off line" model. the online or also known as inline will charge the batteries and you will draw power from the batteries .... no switching .
