Nothing I've tried so far has helped in any way. I'm convinced it's a DNS server or proxy cache issue though, as it was a combination of those that fixed it the first time around when this occured about 18 months ago.
Can you suggest an ISP?
Telkom. I'm using a 3 GB shaped ISP account at the moment on a 384 kbps line. Worked fine till 9 May when this issue came up. I don't necessarily want to change ISP's because I've made good use of the "averaging" system in the past
I guess I could try another for a month or so to see if there's any difference but don't want to change and find myself tied to a contract for 12 months with the same issue unresolved by using another.
Can you suggest an ISP?
I did have a Tiscali account for a while, I think before they were taken over by MWeb but it was used by a friend for the entire 12 month contract period except for some messing around I did with it to check it out. Their support sucks or sucked at the time anyway. When it came to cancelling the account it took forever for them to get it right.
I'm beginning to think that it may be the firewall in your router. Have you tried to use an alternative router?
I have Web Africa and have the identical problem. As a test, you could buy 1GB of prepaid access from WebAfrica in order to see if it solves the problem...
That's definitely worth a try...Problem was finally solved by clearing all cookies in my system, both through Firefox and manually in the Temp Internet folder.
Woo hoo. I've set my proxy to cache.saix.net:8080 and so far so good.
Other proxies suggested but not tried yet: cache.saix.net:3128 and dsl-cache.saix.net:8080.
I didn't clear any cookies.
You're a star SecretCode![]()
cache.saix.net on port 8080 and 196.43.42.190 as Primary DNS with 196.43.38.190 as Secondary has done it and I'm back to my full spamming glory at www.pro-networks.org![]()
Despite the different error message, this sounds like exactly the problem Grav!ty and I have been experiencing. So (1) it may not be a fault with any specific proxy or the transparent approach itself, but with having proxy farms. (I'm they can do something better with it though.) And (2) ... I shoulda gone straight to WA for a solution!Problem/Summary
I log onto certain sites successfully but then get kicked off because I am "not connecting from the IP address I logged in from"?
Cause
In SA, if you are using a SAIX Telkom line to access the Internet, the ADSL service uses a transparent proxy-server farm for all International access. This farm of proxy servers helps reduces the international bandwidth bottleneck problems we have. These proxy servers report their own IP address for the web requests. This means that when you download a page, the return address given to the web server is in fact the address of the proxy server. The server in turn sends this page back to you for your viewing. The reason this is called "transparent" is because you don"t have to do anything specific to utilise this service and it is supposed to be seamlessly integrated.
Unfortunately, because every request goes through a different proxy server, some sites which use the IP address for extra security will deny you access when you try to navigate away from the page where you logged in.
Resolution
Use a specific proxy server instead. Please refer to the proxy server tutorial.
