who.is.michael has suggested that a grid antenna http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php?photo=601&size=big&ppuser=17168 will be nice for iBurst (one shown is for WiFi 2.4 and 5 GHz). It is technically feasible to do and such antenna I would estimate would have gain of about 24 dBi and a beam of about 15 degrees. Retail price would be around R600-700 which is not bad giving the monstrous gain you would get. Would like to hear if other people would believe such high gain antenna would be useful for iBurst (especially people who may have tried high gain antennas before).

Any other antenna types which people believe would be useful for iBurst and if so, why?

Does anyone know whether iBurst has a distance (timing) cut-off and how far this is if it exists?

This is NOT a grid antenna. It is a dipole with BIG reflector.

As GRES said :)

Now...

What about a low gain antenna that is very directional or even a pad for situations like mine. Lord knows it will help those of us with basestation hop because iBust cannot think and try and fix a problem by putting up more basestations in close proximity to mine.

VERY directional antenna by nature has HIGH gain :-)
2+2=2x2=4

Hi Gres

I think you might be the appropriate person to speak with…

Unfortunately, I do not have the equipment to test the SWR of this antenna for the iBurst frequency of 1792 MHz.

Could you possibly refer me to someone in the Cape Town area that could possibly assist me with testing / modifying the feed so as to prevent damage to the UTD? (Although, currently it is performing well.)

If not, any practical advice would be welcomed.

KR

Michael

P.S. I have tried your planar antenna and it works, however it seems to be very directional and with the slightest movement of the panel signal loss occurs. What might the H & V beamwidth be in degrees?
