Hey

my friend just installed a 4MB ADSL line yesterday, when tested it the avergae download speed was 50kb/s now im used to 350 - 400 so i went home and tested mine also maxed out at 55/kb/s tried IS / TELKOM account same thing with both, have TELKOM slowed down the 4bm lines?

My friend and i are both in bedfordview JHB.

Anyone else having slow speeds?

He might be further away from the exchange than you are. Check what speed his router is syncing at.

Im within 1 kilometer from the exchange and im also mxing out at 55kb/s when its supposed to be closer to 400.

Iv been having the same issues lately.

4mb line barely reaching 50KB/s and other days cruising at 420KB/s.

its after the rain...

if u take a look at the router http://10.0.0.2
u will see it is prob not syncing at 4096 which it should be...
try unplug and plug it in again, otherwise ull just have to wait till telscum fix it which usually takes a day or so..

till the next time it rains..

First post on these forums so hello to all :)

We have exactly the same problem. After waiting 6 months for phone lines we finally got the lines with a new ADSL "4mb" line installed a week ago at our business premises in Midrand. We are 500m from the exchange and its all brand new lines to the exchange.

The modem is syncing the entire time at 4096 but the download speed seems to be throttled at 50kpbs. Tried different ISP accounts, different modems and Telkom DSL phone support tried to reset everyting on their side twice but to no avail. They said that the port is probably not configured correctly at the exchange. So the non-ADSL techie who installed the original lines was kind enough to switch the line to another port but still the same problem. He said the problem must be at the DSLAM (correct word?) and I will have to wait for a ADSL technition to come and fix it.

Typical Telkom, after waiting 6 months for lines & ADSL the things dont even work as they should. And after reporting the fault the first time, I phoned 2 days later again to check on the progress and they said that the case was closed because its all fixed. LoL ?? How could it be fixed if someone doesnt even phone you to check if it is fixed. So I had to log another support request.

I have found since I have upgraded to 4mb some sites are slower and some sites are faster. Youtube slow all the time so I dont know if its YouTube or my line. Facebook also slow at times. Local always fast... I feal like I am paying more to surf local sites faster and not international sites.
