Hi All
This is my first time here, Thanks in advance for any help.
I have been struggling with Telkom for Three days to set up my ADSL account. I can use my account on a friends Netgear router at his premises OK and all is working but when I use the USB pots, even at his place, I do not get any connection.
Firstly I had a problem using the stupid Telkom setup software which cannot work. There is a point where it wants to install the drivers and clearly states that you should not plug in the modem and the next moment is displaying a window asking if the indicator on the task bar is working indicating a modem ADSL successful connection, yet the unit is not plugged in as instructed. After many long sessions with the Telkom so called experts I am still down. They claim is maybe a line or exchange fault. I loaded new drivers from the Marconi site and after some effort got the modem working. It shows a connection at the correct speed and Telkom can see the modem but I still cannot connect via the pseudo dialup PPPOE connection.
Telkom cannot and do not know how to help.
Is there any other way to determine the problem as I think is with the Telkom Authentication as error 768 claims the remote computer did not respond as with dial up connections in the old days. The DNS and or IP setup and those details may be wrong not?
Please help!
