What did they expect ?
It was clearly marked and intended for whites only. If I go to a place and it says on the shower door Black only, I would not use it :rolleyes:

I have been told by a taxi driver that i am not allowed to get in his taxi because it is a colourds only taxi.. i didn't file charges against the guy, i guess they just didn't like me.
 
It's unconstitutional to have "whites only" or "blacks only" or "coloureds only" facilities.

It is not only unconstitutional it is completely immoral to have such a sign up. That place should be shut down. There is no place in humanity or society for people like that.

But yet it is ok to have hotels where "kids under 12 are not allowed" - which is blatant ageism.

Like I said. This is wrong.

However, they went in there knowing what would happen.

I'm not saying that any of this is right. All I'm saying is what happened to them would have been avoided if they didn't go and try to prove a point.

If it's a public area there is no place for something like that. If I have signs on my personal farm letting the workers know which Oblition is open to use for them, there is nothing wrong with it.

They use the wrong oblition they get what is coming to them.

I do agree that should not have been there ;)
They went against it and got nailed for it ;)

They should have used the ones intended for them and blown the whistle after they got home :rolleyes:

What they did was just stupid

You obviously did not read the story and are talking out your @ss.

They were not staying at the camping grounds and went in on a day pass (paid R50 each) They then asked if they could use the showers, and no one seemed to refuse, they were then attacked.

So they saw the sign, read it, asked to use it and then got attacked.
The entire story makes me sick

Apart from the fact that anything "clearly marked and intended for whites only" is both unconstitutional and against the law, being attacked and assaulted in a shower while jeering onlookers stand by idly is simply not on.

But could have been avoided. I'm not saying it was right and they deserve it. I'm not going to drive to Soweto wearing an old Army outfit am I ?

I too am appalled by blatant racism but in this case I am with Pitbull. When I read the story I immediately felt that the whole story is not being told. It appears to once again be a family with a chip on their shoulder. My immediate thought is that they were not staying there, so may not have been entitled to use all the facilites. Day pass may be allowed different accesss rights. You are also looking for trouble if you go in somewhere on a day pass and inconvenience the long termers. It happens when you are white too!!

We do not get told all the facts. Perhaps day visitors are not entitled to the use the showers or there was some other reason. And who did they ask initially? Some guy working at the gate that could barely speak their language? Perhaps when told to leave they then made it a racist thing by asking if it was because they were coloured (when it is merely the rules) - i have seen this turning an argument into a racist one many times before....

Perhaps (and yes this may be construed as being a racist generalisation by me) they were showering using soap/shampoo etc in showers meant for rinsing one's self (again seen on Durban beaches!)... or even worse washing pots and pans etc in the showers.... (again seen).

The assumption by most of you above sems to be that there was/is a whites only sign. The story does not say this... it says "The showers were apparently for white people". Once again something was obviously said in anger and then blown out of proportion. I do not doubt that a few tasty comments were said back to the "whiteys" by an angry dad.

Too many chips on the shoulders I say...
