How to retire at 45 in South Africa

Ah, there is the difference. We all get the government pension, but almost everyone makes contributions to a secondary one via their employer. It's kind of recommended by the government (since their pension is about half minimum wage)

How to retire at 45 in South Africa

My source - I live in a developed country and talk to the locals about these things... Now what? edit: if countries ranked in the top 10 for best pensions can't get it right, I don't see how SA way down the list is going to be any better. Unless like you say you just throw tons of money at the...

I agree. Going to a developed country your pension/retirement may be more stable or guaranteed. But getting it done early is mighty difficult. With (in my opinion) the exclusion of the US, there it's not as stable, but I reckon it is easier to achieve early retirement

MyBB Motorcycle Owners Thread (2nd gear)

Stupid as it is, protective motorcycle gear will fall into the clothing category at SARS. So you add 45% to the purchase price, and then add another 15% (onto the total of purchase price + duty) for VAT.

When you can buy an electric VW in South Africa

Because how much kw you can get out of a battery (essentially) never decreases. Hence it has no bearing on whether the battery will be replaced under normal conditions. However it is a given that storage capacity will decline over time, hence that is what will determine whether a battery needs...

When you can buy an electric VW in South Africa

I'd like to challenge this (not the initial cost, that is still way too high) Think carefully of your typical drives. I know in my average 15kkms per year, I would have maybe one trip per year that is in excess of 250km. Work and back is easily 50km for most. Friends and outings also 50km So why...

When you can buy an electric VW in South Africa

Going downhill is free at worst. At best I would guess (since this is not my specific area of expertise) it won't impact regen - speeds are low so you won't go over the max ability of regen (typically around 0.2g), hence you're using it to the full. And your car should be the battery backup for...

When you can buy an electric VW in South Africa

This is not how range testing is done. At minimum you've got to conform to some standard tests like WLTP or Artemis so you're customers can make direct comparisons to other vehicles. And these tests are involve a wide range of speeds (you've got to hit specific speeds that are specified in 1sec...

When you can buy an electric VW in South Africa

Traffic is a non event since you've got regen Road conditions are a non event A/C would draw less power than what is needed during cold weather (cold weather is the worst case scenario for EVs), hence I gave the cold weather range in my previous post. You've got a lot to learn about EVs :)

I must also add my "huh" to this? Even if the drivetrain is half as efficient as a typical Tesla, you'll still get to 150km real world range. Bare minimum imo is going to be 180km (and that's at -10°C ambient)

When you can buy an electric VW in South Africa

The amount of effort that goes into making batteries safe is astounding. Remember that cars are (especially in the USA) literally lawsuits on wheels waiting to happen. Cells are separated so that if one batch goes up in flames the rest don't, or they take a long time to also reach critical...

When you can buy an electric VW in South Africa

What does the added kw have to do with anything? Yes, the electric drivetrain in a hybrid provides more power and torque to the overall vehicle, but even an old battery will still give you that. You just wont get the range you did when it was new and fresh. That's the only reason to replace a...
