Well the point is still installed... so I'll be able to switch if needed... but considering the amount of downtime I experienced in the last couple of months... Yes I'm ditching MetroFibre (and Afrihost... so if I do connect MetroFibre again it sure as hell won't be through Afrihost.)
Update...
Filled in my application with Cool Ideas Wednesday 2019/4/10... Got a call from OpenServe on Thursday 2019/4/11 to setup an appointment for installation of the line on 2019/4/12. Line was installed and up by 15:00... Gave the line ID to cool ideas, 15min later got my PPPOE user and...
OK... that is an option... (Yes it can spoof the WAN mac address).
Other comments welcome... Can anyone confirm that Vox authenticates on the mac address?
Hi guys,
I'm trying to change a friend's router for him from the standard one provided by Vox to a Unifi Security Gateway.
So far we've not had much luck.
Anyone know the procedure with Vox to change the router? Do we phone their support to authenticate the new device?
(The current setup...
Ok so I'm with Afrihost... 25min would be a nice response time any time of the day. Mostly I wait till about 2 hours after logging a call... then I go the social media route. You then wait another 10-15 minutes before you get some kind of response. This isn't during funny hours. Logging a...

A slight difference in the experience might be explained by the load shedding schedule... our first couple of weeks of load shedding was on a nasty schedule where we basically had about 9 hours of load shedding most days (excellent way to kill my UPS batteries).
So in...
Having seen how the fibre was run in our complex I can tell you the OpenServe installation looks amazing... the MFN installation... well there's basically loads of spare fibre coiled up in every access hole, nothing is labeled. The OpenServe installation is all labeled and rather than run extra...
Frequent downtime... in a few cases I'm sure it was the ISP... in those cases I got an IP from the ONT but could not get any DNS resolutions.
The last few times though I don't get an IP from the ONT.
Like I said in my previous post, suspect the load shedding is causing this (not sure what kind...
Pretty sure metrofibre has something to do with the fact that there was no pretty red light coming from the fibre... Also pretty sure that Eskom is partially to blame. Most of the recent down time was after load shedding in our area. I think the bit that annoys me though is the fact that...
I don't have massive issues with speed... Since my last complaint it got a lot better... What has gotten worse this week is the downtime... Probably related to the loadshedding bit in the past I had connectivity even when Eskom was down. As it stands now my old 10/1 ADSL line was infinitely...
Hi all,
After repeated problems with my current connection (which I'm not sure if it's due to the Fibre provider or the ISP) I'm on the lookout for a new solution. We have MetroFibre and OpenServe available in our complex (I'm currently on MetroFibre). Line speed isn't bad (manage to max out...
And this morning we've reached a new low... Opening up my browser now presents me with an Afrihost page stating I have used all the data in my package. On the first day of the month. On an uncapped package.
Well done Afrihost.
