So nothing of this sort.
I had the phone on WiFi only and was only using it to send an sms every 3 months to keep the SIM active , and then switch the phone back off. This was in the Netherlands.
Thanks for the tip I will try to query the charges..
MTN just says I sent sms and that content...
Hi everyone,
I have a prepaid MTN SIM, and I’ve been roaming internationally for the past six+ months. During this time, I noticed I’ve been regularly charged for SMSs to 45411, even though I have not sent any messages to this number. These are R2.75 each time.
I suspect it’s related to the...
Thanks @maumau I could port but MTN (and cell C) are the only network that allow airtime recharge with overseas credit cards so thats why trying to sort it out with MTN ..
Cant procure any of the other bank related MVNOs since they all require having a bank account with them.
Tried to get...
Thanks @ajax . I cant double check if Access4Life is turned on as im not in SA and I believe you need to run a USSD..
Meanwhile funny story then: MTN credited me R20 in Jan, knowing fully well it would expire in 30 days and it would be no good to me since Im only back in SA by June! :)
I had...
Thanks @Smiggles .
Given:
Jan 22: R30
April 08: R0.8
It hasnt been 90 days , and it took like R25+ or so ..
Plus, the description of the service is a bit unclear. Does the service still charge you R20 every 90 days, even when you have performed a charging activity before the 90 days are up?
Hi All,
So I have an MTN prepaid sim, which I use on my trips to SA. (2-3 / year)
Within every 90 days of my last SA trip, I turn the phone on, send an sms (on roaming) and switch it off again to keep the sim active.
For the last couple of months, something has been eating up my airtime...
So the plot thickens :
I DM'd them on X:
They asked for my sim 10 digit number.
I sent them photo of my SIM.
They then told me there was a sim swap on my SIM 3 weeks back !!!
I told them it wasn't me. They then said they reversed the SIM swap.
Now I can connect to network again.
But:
-...
Yes it did go through and was received .
I think the balance was also deducted.
Anyway to turn this extender service from abroad ? All I can find is that one needs to dial a short code but that wouldn't work in my situation ...
Thanks .
I did try manually connecting to all networks my phone is showing but still no luck.
Sent mtnza a DM on X .. they haven't responded yet.
I'm hoping they don't have 60 days expiry for Bozza Gig plan Sims.. :(
Thanks !
But even if I could procure an esim wouldn't a SIM swap require me being able to get some sort of SMS on the source SIM ?
I don't live in SA but visit twice a year so more interested in keeping the number and not having to procure a new SIM and Rica hassle every time I visit .
Thanks D
From the article : "whereas Cell C, MTN and Telkom do so after three months"
I'd be well within three months of last activity I'd think . :( It's been 73 days vs 90
Hi All,
I'm travelling and have an MTN Bozza Gigs sim.
I last used it to send a message while roaming on 5 July .
Today I popped it back in my phone but it won't connect ! :(
Did it expire ? I thought MTN had 90 days expiry ?
Any thoughts on whether it's possible to reactivate it ? I'm back...
Hi All,
Annual visitor to SA here.
First time now, got a Cell C SIM and the experience has been mixed:
At times, data would stop ( Poco F3) and would only start back after flight mode toggle. ( Load shedding ? )
At times, data be showing connected but no throughput.
Anyways maybe that's just...
