    Which puffer jacket?

I personally have a down K-Way one as well. It is a nice jacket - lightweight and regulates temperature much better than many others. I should mention that the one I have: - isn't super waterproof - isn't super camp-proof (despite many people wearing them when camping - or perhaps glamping)...

    Which puffer jacket?

I've never understood any "jacket" that keeps my arms open. Fine if you have to wear a school blazer or suit jacket or something but I need to keep my thin weak computer-arms warm. EDIT: Spelling (thanks @satanboy)

ESP launches South Africa's "live status page"

They've added more "direct" reporting. E.g. If I open the app it directly asks if I have issues in the area, and then I can drill down into "Power/Water/Internet" and then directly indicate if I have power or not. Relying on user text would be very inaccurate I think.

    FNB ATMs down?

Thanks this fits closer with what I was seeing: - atms off at three different locations (Menlyn mall + 2 other locations) - I know my FNB online banking is useless on Sunday evening due to maintenance; just didn't think it would happen this early in the day. Most of Menlyn were still fully open...

    FNB ATMs down?

Sheesh, so much useful information. I have a contractor who is giving me a substantial discount if I pay cash. Probably dodging taxes, but hey as far as I know cash is still legal tender, and his business is his business. This is the first time I've needed cash in years. I'm able to withdraw...

    FNB ATMs down?

I was in Menlyn Mall this afternoon and needed to withdrawn some cash. All of the ATMs in the mall indicated that they're "Offline". So moved to another in the area (another mall) and saw this: And then tried another at a petrol station and saw this: Anybody know something?

Discovery Bank's AI prepares payment details from invoices automatically

I'm considering moving to Investec simply because of API banking. Then I can code whatever I want. And automate however I want.

What is your non-negotiable item, device, or app for international travel?

I wish. I've flown more times than I can remember and haven't sat in a Business Class seat once. For me: - eSIM like Ubigi, Saily etc. I tend to travel to places where I can buy clothes / toothpaste / basics with relative ease. But buying a SIM card has always been a mission and having data...

Discovery Bank's AI prepares payment details from invoices automatically

Agreed, if I ever do AI Banking I would definitely expect a human-review step before money gets moved (until we get to a point where AI doesn't make mistakes or can't be prompt-injected/jailbroken/go-roague that easily - if ever).

Discovery Bank's AI prepares payment details from invoices automatically

I do this every time I bank. Still ends up in a very small window on my 30" monitor. Doesn't help that my bank at some point "pushed" me to use the app rather than the website to "gain points".

Discovery Bank's AI prepares payment details from invoices automatically

Actually I really do like the ideas of using AI to do banking. It irks me incredibly having to look through an email / invoice / WhatsApp for - the bank account (and then being forced to type in 7 - 11 digits in a continuous fashion because banking apps can't just ignore spaces -...

Discovery Bank's AI prepares payment details from invoices automatically

I must be getting old, because one of the things I find most annoying things is being forced to do banking through a 6.1 screen with my fingers in an app that locks out my password app for "security reasons". Meanwhile I have a precision pointer, a full keyboard with tactile buttons, a...

Rotational blackouts in Johannesburg are still on the cards, and people have 30 days to change Eskom's mind

Agreed. Surely it can't be that hard to follow the money and figured out who forgot to pay. I'm guessing it is more likely that they don't have the money and stuck their heads in the sand and hope it goes away. Or just forgot?

New iOS and iPadOS adds keyboards for South African languages

Haha, I speak Afrikaans at home. :X3:

New iOS and iPadOS adds keyboards for South African languages

This is pretty great. I talk Afrikaans at home and English everywhere else, and this has been a major reason why I had to use a different keyboard. And yes - it is not about the actual layout. Even though AFrikaans use some ê and ï's - that has always been pretty easy to do on an Apple device...
