FINAL UPDATE
Since resetting the modem the connection has been stable.
I have also just received a courtesy call from RAIN tech support to confirm the status of the connection.
Even though the fault was never at RAIN, their support team was still willing to help and check things out for me...

Out of frustration, I quickly took the sim card out of my Huawei B315s and placed it into my standby Huawei USB dongle modem and the internet worked 100% with the USB dongle.
Placed the sim back into the Huawei B315s after which it connects like before, but still no data...
