Please guys, noticing a lot of you thinking the problem lies with the wife. It's not. She's supportive, with obviously lots to think about. The wife and I are passed the stage of discussion with regard to emigration. Just that now, it's a reality, there's a bit more to think about. My issue is...

Yes, she was aware obviously with all the interviews and such. Previously, we were trying for a job, wasn't a reality, it was in the back of our mind, just trying and trying. Now that its a reality, obviously a lot more thinking to do.

Yes ofcourse these are the issues that were first brought up. She will look for work once that side. Obviously the offer is for myself, and after evaluating if possible to live off just 1 salary for now, i do know we will be fine.

I think resent is a strong word, but yeah i will always have the 'what if' feeling. As said previously, we are equal partners, if theres valid reasons that outweigh the positives, i will respect her decision. He didnt change her mind, just gave her reasons to think about.

1.) No. 2.) Yes, again, she is not ruling it out completely, my issue is with the FIL 3.) Don't think she riddled, she just phoned to convey the news, and say we thinking about it. The resistance is coming from the FIL. 4.) Yes, we totally aware of things not working out and we fine with taking...

I wont be ignoring how she feels, i totally understand if she has any concerns. We can discuss them through. Again, point of the thread was to display frustration toward my FIL, and not the wife, I believe the wife will be on-board, i just couldnt handle the FIL saying negative comments and...

Yes i believe we are. Hence my comment to someone above, "Also, is it fair to say we need to have a "serious chat" if "she doesn't" as per your advice? I'm trying to see why would I feel the need to be entitled. We're married and shouldn't I respect her decision in not wanting to go? Obviously...

Yea she obviously knew I've been applying etc. Though we both didn't think any of it until an interview came about, and then an offer. That's when we decided to tell the in-laws. She didn't go to him, she phoned to tell him the news. She's been neutral all along purely because she didn't think...

I understand, it's a big move, concerns that every other emigrant would have, for example leaving family behind, logistics, etc. Those are mine also, but does not mean I should forsake an opportunity. Also, is it fair to say we need to have a "serious chat" if "she doesn't" as per your advice...

Regular forumite here. Throwaway account. I am just so pissed. My SO and I have begun thinking about our possible emigration. I have acquired a job offer in Canada. The father-in-law says "No" to my wife. Now I don't speak to them often. But what in the actual f**k is "No" supposed to mean. I...
