Is there any advantage to using my R1m annual allowance to buy USD and purchase BTC overseas, and move the BTC into self-custody?
I pay tax in ZAR. I keep ZAR-BTC and USD-BTC in separate addresses, to track ZARUSD currency fluctuations if I ever sell.
My feeling is to buy as much BTC overseas...
Thanks @Sensorei. I was mystified by a first-ever "Trading Fee" today on Luno's exchange. I tried chatting to an agent, who was completely clueless and kept telling me about transactions fees on the blockchain. The agent obviously didn't know about the new trading fees. Useless customer support...
USDC / Coinbase / Circle registered in the US seems safer than USDT / Bitfinex / Tether registered in the British Virgin Islands. But who knows - nothing would surprise me. There are crooks everywhere.
I don't think so. Bitcoin will be fine. The scamsters, grifters, frauds, ponzis who are left after FTX will be flushed away, and good riddance. Tether is just too opaque not to be fraudulent.
USDT and Binance are next to implode it seems. There's just too much smoke for there not to be a fire. For safety, if I had assets on Binance, I'd remove them and close all positions asap until the contagion subsides.
Anyone know why one can't select Takealot's warehouse in Montague Gardens for collections any longer?
The closest collection point will cost an additional R30 to collect.
Don't be surprised if you keep getting the original SMS despite opting out. I opted out on 1 March, got the confirmation, but still got another "...to opt out..." SMS this morning.
Vodacom is a b/s company:
1. using opt out sales, which is illegal
2. sending the same SMS to customers who have already opted out of the extra R15/month
3. using scare tactics to force you to reconsider. In my experience, cellphone networks mostly write off remaining contracts if the subscriber...
I have an FNB USD Global account. Luno won't accept USD purchases, everything has to be in ZAR. I don't want to "repatriate" USD (converting to ZAR) that I've already exporting using my annual allowance.
Does anyone know of, and recommend, a way of using an SA-based USD account to buy/sell...
