Hello!
My cousins have been using Telkom Fibre for the past few years, and they've had complaints about lower average speeds than what they're paying for (currently they're on Telkom's uncapped 80Mbps/80Mbps home fibre plan, but when they do speed tests, the download and upload speed results...
An Mweb representative also contacted me last night and gave me a test account to use. I'll try it today and tomorrow, and also give an update tomorrow evening or the next day :D
Hello!
For the past week or so, I've been getting ~90% packet loss every 5-10 minutes with Mweb capped fibre (250Mbps/150Mbps) on Openserve.
I first noticed it when playing Fortnite on my PC, which is connected to the router via an ethernet cable. Every few minutes there would be immense...
Thanks for your explanation! I don’t live in KZN but I do play games quite often, and the ones that I play occasionally have issues with VPNs, so I think CISP’s packet loss problems might be a concern.
After doing some more research and reading everyone’s input on this post, I’ve decided to try...
Thank you very much for explaining these to me! Probably, wholesaler companies not being flexible won't matter most of the time, but in a situation where it does, I suppose it would be very beneficial to be with an ISP that is more flexible with their networks (which I'm assuming CISP is).
Thanks so much for this! Now I need to find out what a looking glass server is, what information it'll tell me, and how to use it
In general though, would you say that MTS, Afrihost, Cool Ideas and Rocketnet have similar enough latency for that not to be a major factor when choosing one...
Yeah that's true, if every ISP's services were reflected accurately by their reviews on HelloPeter for example, about 70% of people wouldn't have internet, which just isn't true.
And what you said about CISP is very accurate, the more people that swap to an ISP while on the same...
I see, thanks for your explanation! When were you with Cool Ideas? Maybe the buffering issues had to do with their attempts to change transit providers over the past year or so. Either way, I'm definitely going to consider MTS and RocketNet a lot more now, so thanks for your input!
Yeah I did see those complaints, not in as much detail as what you’ve explained though; maybe I’ll read more about them when I can. But PBCool said in a response to my question about their network issues that they’ve gotten everything mostly stable and running smoothly again, so maybe those...
I’m glad Rocketnet’s been good! Maybe I have another ISP to consider now :D
Also, besides MTS’s consistency and reliability, how else did they compare to Cool Ideas or Afrihost? Like in terms of speed, latency, etc.
I'm sorry that it's been a difficult process, but I'm glad it's being resolved! Cool Ideas didn't seem to me like a company that would be content just to leave it as it was.
And thank you for your quick response and explanation :D
