    Problem resolved .... Switched to the C++ dll and calling dll methods directly, and not via the .net interop dll.

    Yep... My lack of .net and C# experience is my problem. Creating objects and using them are fine, it's just the one specific callback that I need to register that is a virtual method and that seems to point to another virtual object with a few methods and a few virtual methods from another...
