This is true, of course. However, looking at the end result can skew what really happened. When economic freedom increases, so does inequality. This also increases prosperity across the board. As the country and its citizens get richer, it becomes easier to implement social welfare policies...
Most research indicates that as liberty increases, equality tends to decrease. Equality is typically achieved through state interventions which limits freedom.
They are only obvious when you lean towards a certain side. I suspect you will be surprised by how many people believe that equality is the ultimate aim, and not wealth creation.
It is slightly challenging to expand and contract. I agree that the state has all those functions, but do you believe in a larger or smaller government?
