US Mid-term elections news and results

Seems like the republicans will make a net gain of two seats in the senate, provided they take Florida. Considering the circumstances going in, that is not too bad for the democrats; they had to defend many more seats and they managed to hold onto ones in states that Trump won two years ago...

Alan Winde announced as DA premier candidate in Western Cape

Although he wasn't very active in the party, Mashaba did join in 2014. So at least two years as a member when he became mayor. His inexperience did show sometimes though, mainly during the campaign. I agree that Plato and Winde are more seasoned politicians.

Alan Winde announced as DA premier candidate in Western Cape

Hopefully. When De Lille became mayor, she had been a DA member for just 9 months. So it was essentially a reward for alligning the ID with the DA. Too big a reward, if you ask me.

Dan Plato to replace De Lille as Cape Town mayor

This quote is about the premier contest, but I imagine the mayoral race was determined in a similar manner: "The selection panel that gave Winde the nod was made up of 10 members designated by the DA’s federal executive and 10 members designated by the provincial executive, DA federal executive...

New Nelson Mandela Bay mayor says 100% budget will go to townships

I can only hope he won't remain mayor for much longer. Guy has no clue.

Dan Plato to replace De Lille as Cape Town mayor

Even assuming that is true, Maimane is now out of the running. If it is correct that Winde scored the highest in the internal selection process, I don't see a way around announcing him as premier candidate. It would make a mockery of any claim to merit-driven appointments. Even though I of...

DA insiders left stunned after Mmusi Maimane puts name forward for Western Cape premiership

I really don't know what you're talking about. DA has made it perfectly clear for anyone who listened even just a little bit that they oppose any changing of the constitution to expropriate without compensation. Then again, I'm talking to someone who thinks the DA is "black Social Marxist". Have...

DA celebrates voters rejecting ANC in another by-election

That's not entirely true. The VF+ vote was hugely important, of course. But there was a noticable decline in the voting districts dominated by the ANC, without which they could not have won: LETSIBOLO PRIMARY SCHOOL ANC 58,35% (-15,20) DA 30,96% (+15,75) EFF 8,91% (+1,65) BAPTIST - CHURCH ANC...

Plans for new Nelson Mandela Bay coalition government

It depends. In this case his vote was crucial. The abstention was effectively a vote to remove the DA speaker.

Plans for new Nelson Mandela Bay coalition government

Funny thing, the metro council came very close to being dissolved earlier this summer. But the one AIC councillor showed up to vote in favor of Trollip's coalition budget. Then he voted Trolip out a few weeks later. If someone can make sense of that, it would be appriciated. I now wish he...

Plans for new Nelson Mandela Bay coalition government

Put the metro under administration and then let voters go back to the polls, like in Nquthu and Metsimaholo.

DA takes back Matzikama; media is silent

It made relatively prominent news in July when it was reported that an ANC councillor had won a mayoral vote in Matzikama municipality, ahead of the DA's candidate. This followed shortly after the resignition of DA Mayor Rhenda Stephan after her caucus had lost confidence in her. I said right...
